…the tongue is a little member, ….how great a matter a little fire kindleth…the tongue is a fire, …it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature…James 3:5,6 KJV
We are torn between two destinies, both determined by “words”. Our world was created by words, rule over it was delegated to us by words, and God intended to back our words with His power and authority. Unfortunately, Adam chose to defy the power and authority of God. Immediately an enemy spirit, also in rebellion against God, deceived Adam into giving him the rule over our earth. Where is that rule located? The entire natural world is designed to respond to the tongue of mankind. Therefore, that enemy spirit is constantly working to control the words that come from our mouths. His desire is to ultimately rule the earth, but now he is focused on destroying all of mankind that refuses his domination. He is restricted to deceiving man to speak words that lead to his own destruction.
When Jesus came to earth and died for mankind, He bought back the right of man to call on God with his words. But, man has to choose to access that privilege, and the enemy still has the ability to deceive.
There is a fire that sizzles on the earth, but the Word of God is a mighty river of Life. If we allow a drought of the Word of God, that sizzle will flame up into a destroying inferno. Censorship and “politically correct” speech are tools of the enemy aimed at drying up the fountain of the water of the Word. Eventually, “…the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up” II Peter 3:10 KJV. But, until then, we must keep the river of His Word flowing to put out the flames of rebellion.
