"Mommy," rang a sweet little voice from the backseat of my van, "I wish I had a key that would open my heart." I peered through my rear view mirror at the sweet five year old face looking back at me. "If I could unlock my heart, I would let Jesus come in. I would lock Him up to stay."
Those precious words started a life changing conversation that led to her salvation. What a beautiful and simplistic understanding of the Lord. We do hold the key to our own hearts. We guard it for fear of getting hurt. We decide who we let in. Sometimes we invite others who reject us. But, Jesus freely accepts us. The invitation is there for the taking. John 19:9 says, "I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture." No key is needed, for nothing is locked.
Not only can we rest in the assurance of His acceptance, we can know that He will never leave us. We do not have to lock Him in our hearts to stay. He stays willingly. Romans 8:38-39 says, "For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart. Will you let Him in?
