Ready
My husband’s Bible teacher would go on about the glory of martyrdom. Her poison of choice was to preach in North Korea-a sure death sentence. Paul said “to live is Christ, and to die is to gain.” I would never dare thinking Paul crazy, but her, very much so. I loved God but I was young in faith, age and maturity and this was too much.
My daughter shocked me saying she doesn’t fear death, “you just go to heaven,” and heaven, she has learned on a youtube testimony, has amusement parks! It is bittersweet that she should say that as she suffers with an ailment that is sporadic but excruciating. Just hold on, I pray for her.
Off and on I felt accepting of the rest of the eternal heavenly kingdom. Ok, briefly, but recently I have had a change of heart and mind. God must be making me ready… with a fatal disease, I joke darkly with myself. I also thought God was making my prepared for the end of the world, but when December 21, 2012 came and went without catastrophe, I know my Bible, but was still a little surprised. Nothing? I’m sure we all get tired of our cross, but by unexpected grace, I am older, wiser and ready for my true and sacred rest.
