With pollen on her feet:
The stories of a hundred lives
From blossoms ’cross the street;
I filled her heart with nectar,
For the day she was a queen!
I wished my friend could stay forever
And help me build my dreams—
But she had other hearts to touch,
Beyond the reach of eye;
For other blossoms needed her pollen,
And so I let her fly.
My petals drooped with sorrow
When I had seen her go;
But she brought just a tiny piece
Of all the joy I’d know!
For soon arrived another bee,
With new accounts to tell;
A different kind of pollen
For me to taste, as well—
A hundred more came later,
Each bringing different tales:
The stories of the mountains,
The messages of the vales!
I do not like to see them go,
But each one played her role;
A potluck from a thousand flowers
Has fed my hungry soul.
