Topic: Agreement/Disagreement (01/19/12)
Mark could feel his young wife behind him, reading his latest attempt at writing. A squeak sounded from his old desk chair as she leaned across the back of the seat. Doing her normal 'edit-of-his-thoughts' on the matter of plot choice, she began to read out loud.

"'The thin silk robe fell from Carol's shoulder as she slid into her husband's warm embrace.' Are you kidding?" Reading a moment more she began to laugh. "This is a story about an old couple."

"Yeah. They're celebrating their 50th anniversary." He turned in his chair to watch her eyes as she read over the rest. "It's this month's piece for AARP. I'm calling it,'The Flames Never Die'. What do you think?"

"These two are in their 70's."

"The man is 76, like my grandpa.” He reached out an arm and pulled Jill into his lap, smiling. “They‘re the ones that inspired me on this one.”

“They are really nice, but...” she slowly raised her hand to brush the hair from Mark’s face. “They can be so embarrassing, They are always hugging on each other. And when they stop in a doorway to kiss, it's ridiculous.”

“I beg to differ there.” Mark pulled her closer in a hug of their own. “I happen to think it’s cool that they still love each other at their age.”

Jill giggled like a child as she snuggled into her husband’s chest, resting her head just beneath his chin.

“Do you think we will still be that way when we reach our 70's?”

“I am counting on it,” he said, kissing the top of Jill’s head softly. "Like I wrote in our wedding vows... “Til death and beyond, through the Lord’s eternity in paradise, I will hold you always, in my arms and my heart.”

“Awww. My husband, the romantic.”

“Yep,” Mark hugged her again as she looked up in his eyes. “I take after my grandpa in that.”

I just love this. You covered the topic fully but in a great subtle way. I think it is fresh and clever. My kids groan about the thought of their grandparents kissing and what not but I think it is sweet. That's what love is all about. Great job with this inspirational piece.

Beautiful and so sweet. I really liked this piece, and I thought of my own late beloved grandparents. They would kiss and hold hands, and go off into their own world, in full view of 11 grandchildren, and their 7 children. We felt their true soul mate love.

This is a wonderful piece and a great use of the topic. I enjoyed the interaction between the two main characters, disagreeing initially but doing so while in each others arms. A subtle but moving context. Very well done!

An endearing story ... makes me think of my elderly aunt before her hubby of 63 years passed away.
