1. You are expounding to a friend at church about how awful the sermon was today. In response to her wide eyed look you turn around and see the Pastor’s wife behind you. You…
a. change the subject and pretend this didn’t happen
b. apology to both wife and friend, making a mental note to confess this later and meditate on Proverbs 18:7*
c. what is embarrassing about this? It was an awful sermon ... of course people are going to talk about it
2. You notice everyone is averting their eyes as you approach the church front doors. There you see your reflection in the mirror. Oops…got as far as donning a silk blouse this morning, but you are still wearing pajama bottoms. You…

b. ask your guests if they prefer pepperoni or ham on their pizza as you reach for the phone
c. serve the burnt offering without comment; after all, they are missionaries
If you answered mostly a, you have a strong inclination towards denial (otherwise known as blaming others.) Taking responsibility for your actions is a good antidote to embarrassment. **
If you answered mostly b, either your ability to be embarrassed serves you well, or you know how to take tests. Check out opportunities to share your knowledge.
If you answered mostly c, this in-your-face I’m-above-embarrassment attitude needs a serious reality check. Immunity to embarrassment is a symptom of narcissism. While you are waiting for your first therapy appointment, reading the book of James might be a good place to start your recovery. ***
