ADD TO MY FAVORITES
at the edge of the foaming sea?
I could swim past persistent swells
into the cold calm
keep going
and going
sink under...
And disappear forever.
Why should I wait, tender tears streaming,
at sleep’s solemn border
between conscious and dream?
Popping pills could
steal my breath
and release my pain
to the stars...
I could sleep forever.
Why should I continue puppet ways,
smiling as if
I wanted to smile;
talking as if
I wanted to talk;
living as if
I wanted to live...
And not leave forever.
Convince me, Lord,
I am loved,
that there’s a reason
to smile
to talk
to live...
And I will.
And I will...
Convince you
you are loved
that there’s a reason
to smile
to talk
to live...
And not leave forever.
From the womb, you have purpose
to be my light
and smile to the grieving,
and talk to the lonely,
and live to love
through me.
You could wait
at sleep’s borders
and I would give you rest
and refresh you.
Don’t rob me
of the life I created
in you.
Of the love I breathed
in you.
Of the time I hold
for you...
You can’t disappear forever.
Because I love you
and never leave your side,
I’d push back the foaming sea,
and carry you over the swells
into the calm shelter of my wings,
lifting you higher
and higher
over your pain.
I won’t persuade you
to love yourself
or love me.
But know I love you,
enough to die for you
to live
Forever.
