Alone, in an open field gives no rise for wanting to escape. This encounter will help build courage for the even greater war predicted to come. And it will come.
The hoof beats slow as if approaching an area they are not sure of, something which may not be too welcoming. Slowly a head rises from the grass, turns and looks directly at the intruders.
“Grandpa, we heard you were with him in the last battle. Is that true?”
“It is. In fact, he sat upon me during the battle,” Grandpa Horse thrust out his magnificent chest.
In unison, 12 miniature images of Grandpa Horse whinny, “Wow! Tell us about it Grandpa.”
“Come with me to the stream at the edge of this pasture.” His long bane swings as his great head turns to leave.
48 tiny hooves dance around a gleaming white stallion as he carefully picks his way towards the gentle stream through the gyrating bodies. One of his favorite spots, the cool shade provides a perfect class room environment.
After a refreshing drink, “Children, lie down and prepare your hearts to hear what you, too, will be involved in.”
Eyes widen as each slowly sink into position.
Scanning their expectant faces, he slowly paces before them, twice, from one end to the other. Heads silently follow his movement. Stopping at the center he hesitates, waiting for his thoughts to fully capture the intensity of the memory. Eyes close, head drops, Master, may I please you; guide my words, I ask. Thank you.
With new confidence he turns to make his address, “Children, what I am about to say may sound to you like it can’t happen because all you have ever know is peace. Your Creator reigns with his saints now but there is a great battle coming and you will be involved in it. You will have a choice about whose side you will be on. I pray you will not be deceived and fight for the destroyer, the evil one.”
“Grandpa, where is this evil one now? Should we be watching for him?”
“He is locked up. He is to be there for a thousand years. Then let out.”
“Let out! Why not keep him in there?”
“It all part of God’s plan. He wants to give humans as much chance as possible to accept his great love before he gets rid of this world and makes a perfect one for his people.”
“With us there too?”
“With us there! But remember people sometimes make bad choices and when the evil one is let out of prison some of them will fight with him against our creator and they will want you to help them. Don’t let them make you follow; it will be to your great harm if you do.”
“Grandpa, why would anyone want to follow the evil one?”
“Because they love evil. Man chose to rebel against God long ago. That nature is still with him but man can make the choice to follow God and accept his sacrifice for their evil ways through believing in God’s Son then their love of evil fades.”
“Tell us what you did in the last war, Grandpa.”
“It was where God’s people returned to earth with him. They were dressed in white; they all had their own horses which where dressed in battle armor.”
“Battle armor?”
“Mine is stored in my stall.”
“Oh, that’s your little room in the barn. I’ve never seen you in there Grandpa.”
“I go in there once in awhile to look at the armor. It helps me remember what I will need to do.”
“Do? What do you need to do, Grandpa?”
“Prepare you for the coming battle!”
“Oh, good!” Bolting to their hooves, they face off, rearing up on back legs.
“Children!” Activity ceases. “Children, you will be taught. You all have the desire and ability. I will show you how to use them.”
“When, Grandpa? Now!? Can you show us how now?”
“Let’s start by seeing what you will be wearing. Come with me to the barn. Tomorrow, we will start your training.”
48 racing hooves are far ahead of the steady, purposeful strides their teacher, Master, give me strength and wisdom…
