Old trunks and souvenirs,
I came across a treasure trove
From long, forgotten years.
A pretty doll from childhood days
Preserved with loving care,
Still dressed in clothes my Granny made
Yet shines her face and hair.
The photo album dusted off
Holds family I love,
Dear Granny, Gramps, uncles and aunts
Now rest with God above.
There’s me at ten astride my Schwinn
It took me far and near,
My hula-hoop and I were one
For a time one happy year.
Brave G.I. Joe lies in a box
My Robert’s favorite toy,
Chatty Cathy her voice is clear
She brought Mary much joy.
In one corner a bundle lies
I wipe away my tears,
Booties, blankets, sweaters, and caps
Saved from earlier years.
Ribbon-tied letters in a drawer
Days of young love and bliss,
Words proved true by marital vows
Forty years of happiness.
As I sort through these novelties
What could I throw away?
Ev’ry jewel has a piece of my heart
Memories of yesterdays.
So in the attic they remain
My cherished treasures nest,
Another day will find me here
Reminded of the past.
