Was like a year of torment.
The selfish pleasure that I sought
Was like a constant yearning for Christmas
That never comes; only more hard winter –
Bleak, frozen, lifeless.
The March winds of the Holy Spirit
Tugged at my resolve,
But I anchored myself to pride
And held fast against Your Love;
Another year of winter.
But then the rains began to fall,
Thawing the frosted hollows of my heart.
I could breath!
And I could see that you still held my hand,
Missed me, still loved me.
So I let it rain, rain, rain,
Until I floated in the river of repentence.
What’s this? Little green buds of spring
Grow gratefulness; full and alive.
After a summer of peace and rest,
Autumn brings wisdom, and in the firelight
I see the scars of Your sacrifice.
I jump heartlong into the vibrant colors
Of obedience in the shining Son.
A new year begins.
