Topic: The Editor (05/27/10)
Here I am again, Mr. Editor, once again bringing this manuscript to your attention for review and critiquing expertise. Depending on what you have to say to me, I'll either continue to correct errors, improve my word selections, or file it in this little round basket I have near my desk. Perhaps a simple “delete” button will do. I know the “happy dance” seldom comes the first time around.

I'm at your mercy, listening for your input into my heart displayed on the page. Please don't take these thoughts lightly as they are part of me and I bruise easily. Be kind as you correct and not disparaging, for if you don't find any redeeming value in my work, I'll be destroyed completely. Be gentle when you point out my weaknesses for it would be so easy to bruise my spirit. It's hard to believe I'm “good enough” to be even laying this before you for your evaluation. I do this by a step of faith. I write as an act of faith, placing and choosing words one after the other for maximum effect. Sometimes I feel a simple flow and the words just evolve on their own. At other times, each sentence is hard won.

Help me to create a work of art that will touch a hardened, hurting heart. One in which others will see your hand at work, taking my sad attempts and bringing shape and substance to what is so full in my heart. How can you guide me in making this a piece of your heart as well? For truly it is your words, and your spirit, that I wish to share with your world.

Yes, Jesus, I listen closely to the whispers of Your spirit. Create in me a pure heart, a heart filled with your motives and intentions and not my own. Examine my thoughts. Know me both inside and out. If this is only meant for one person and not a wide audience, that too is in Your hands. I am only acting as a scribe...a means of reaching the lost and the hurting among us.

This desire initially came from Your impact on my life and the circumstances You have brought into my life. There are so many more gifted than I. Use my humble beginnings for Your glory, I pray, as they evolve on the page. Use my lighted candle as a means of spreading Your good news so that it becomes a flame around the world heating up each reader with Your healing Holy Spirit. Fire refines and purifies.

May my humble manuscript be used to bring honor to You who have given me life, hope, and a future for eternity. Being a part of Your company is my highest aspiration and I yearn to hear Your “well done” in my future.

A good reminder of what it means to be gentle when pointing out another person's weakness, for it can be so easy to bruise one's spirit. A much needed prayer as writers.

Good picture of our cringing hearts drawing close to our loving King. Isn't His grace wonderful?! I found this to be a thoughtful description of our approach to God. Good portrayal of the thought process.

Amen! Praying along with you on that one! You did really well at painting both the vulnerability and hopes and prayers of a consecrated Christian Writer, when laying a piece before the public's eye.
