“Mom, Mom, where are you? You’ve got to see this!”
Concerned about Heather’s excited entrance Suzanne appeared from the kitchen. “Heather, what in Heavens name is wrong? Are Tyler and the kids alright?”
Slightly winded Heather enthusiastically replied, “Tyler and the kids are fine Mom, but you really do need to sit down. You’re not going to believe this. It’s unbelievable and eerie at the same time.”
Taking a slow, metered breath, Suzanne calmly situated herself into her customary armchair, while Heather settled onto the Medallion backed sofa across from her.
“For goodness sakes Heather, what is it? You’re starting to scare me.”
While tightly gripping the bulky envelope on her lap Heather lovingly replied, “It’s the personal memoirs of your favorite author Nicole Cummings.”
The glow emanating from Suzanne’s deep ocean blue eyes seemed to dissolve away every crease that adorned her precious mother’s eighty-seven year old face.
“How in the world did you ever get this?”
Handing the manuscript to her mother, Heather replied, “I wanted to get you something extra special for Mother’s Day, Mom, and found this being auctioned on e-bay. After Nicole died her publisher was given specific instructions that it be sold without publishing rights to a private party who Nicole felt certain would treasure it as a special devoted reader.”
With a slight gist of razzing, Heather added, “I’ve grown up hearing you talk about Nicole Cummings as if she were a family member. How you felt the two of you were kindred spirits and how much you’ve wished she had written her autobiography.”
“Yes, Heather, her passion to convey the essence of a living and forgiving God through her enchanting stories, lead me to the foot of the cross where I accepted His eternal gift of salvation.”
“I’ve read these memoirs Mom and think you should first read the last page which has a picture of Nicole on it, and then read page thirty two.”
Opening the manuscript carefully, Suzanne went directly to the last page while Heather watched her mother softly gasp in disbelief.
“I know mom, it’s you, even down to your flowing silver hair.”
Final Farewell
I have dedicated this memoir to all of the blessed souls God has allowed me to humbly touch with the melodies of my heart, resonating His undying love for mankind.
As a writer, it has been me deepest desire to pluck at the heartstrings of every reader; in order to seat within each one, that insatiable thirst for an inner fulfillment only God can quench.
Being lead by God to have my autobiography sold to a private party after my departure, has left me with many questions of which I shall not seek to have answered; but instead will continue to wait upon the Lord knowing He has a perfect plan.
Withholding any utterance, Suzanne caressingly turned to page thirty-two.
Chapter 7
My Mother’s Secret Heartache
Shortly before my mothers passing, she shared with me an astounding event that had taken place during the birth of my twin brother and me.
She delivered triplets and was told that one had died. A little girl. When she asked to see her the Dr. explained that she needed her strength for the two babies that were left and wanted to spare her the agony of seeing her deceased baby.
My mother felt certain that she heard the baby cry as the nurse left the room and insisted that the baby be brought to her. However, her pleas were ignored and she was given sedatives instead.
My mother cried mournfully as she recounted that horrible day. She believed that because it was during the depression, and she already had three other children in addition to the triplets, “someone” decided they were doing her a favor by giving her one less mouth to feed.

Heart broken, Suzanne tenderly looked up at her daughter, revealing the turbulence beginning to flood her ocean blue eyes.
Although Suzanne’s parents never told her she was adopted, she discovered the adoption papers amongst her parent’s belongings after they had both passed away.
They stated that Suzanne’s birth parents were killed in a car accident shortly after she was born in California and since there were no living relatives, was given up for adoption to a family in Florida.

The plot seemed just a tad contrived and too neatly wrapped up--a problem with ultra-short fiction--and there were some places that needed commas.
Good title that very aptly describes the mood of this story. A fine read.
Very sweet. I liked it!
Keep up the good work!
