"I'm trying to make a rainbow, Momma, and these are Jimmy's old crayons and he's lost the blue one, so I guess I'll never make it to second grade."
Momma picked up a couple crayons off the floor and looked at them; "Don't worry, little one, surely out of all these crayons we can find one that will do just as nicely; like this one,"... and she handed me a crayon marked "C E R U L E A N", which I'd never heard of before, much less pronounce.
"What's that, Momma?" I sighed aloud.
"Cerulean is just perfect, Honey; in fact it's the same color God used to color the sky," and then I listened in awe as Momma told me the Legend of the Three Blues in the rainbow:
"When the devil was being kicked out of Heaven for causing alot of trouble, he stole a handful of God's blue crayons on his way out the front gate - just for spite. It really didn't matter much at the time because God had already finished creating, painting and decorating planet Earth. He'd already made blue skies, blue oceans, various shades of blue flowers, blue birds, and the magnificent blue, azure, and bluish green feathers for the strutting proud peacock.
"And Wow, little one, what a wonderful world He created, too! A beautiful place that was out of this World in perfection of taste, decor, and color blending! God was truly an 'extraordinaire' when it came to interior decorating. Strictly Blue Ribbon stuff...like how do you say? The Cat's Meow?"
Momma and I both giggled.
"However, it wasn't until after Noah built the ark and after the flood, that God discovered His blues were missing. He was preparing to make His rainbow of promise for Man, and had red, orange, yellow, and green, but no blue! But 'all things are possible with God'....so no sweat, right?"
"Right!" and Momma and I did a hi-five.
"God began at the top of His rainbow with red, followed by orange, yellow, green and...(nobody but God knows the secret behind the Three blues) but He improvised and finished His rainbow with THREE different shades of blue.
"You've got to look closely or use binoculars or a telescope to see them, and astronomers are still debating which blues were used. Cerulean, violet and indigo blue are suspected. They just slowly blend into one another until they fade into the original blue of the sky.
"Anyway, little one, when God looks down from Heaven and sees the rainbow, He sees it as a big 'Smiley Face' looking back up at Him from His position up in Heaven, and down here on planet Earth, we see it as an upside down 'smiley face' like a McDonalds of St Louis arc...when we look at it.
"And when God's Rainbow of Promise was finished, God announced: "I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the (Promise) between me and the earth...that Never again will the waters become a flood to destry all life. And when I see it' God said, I will remember."
"And when Earth sees the rainbow in the sky, we too, will remember. It will remind us of how very much God loves us, and of His comforting promise to us, and how one day, Jesus, His only begotten Son, will come again, and take us to our home in Heaven.
"Won't it be great fun, little one, to see God's 'Smiley Face' from up there?"
The End

And this is how a Legend is born, or an Old Wives' Tale gets it's legs.
It only takes a ittle imagination, a flair for the fanciful and a genuine desire for a Blue Ribbon from Faithwriters, Inc.
