To drive a car, go to work
Carry a coffee cup
He wished to lead the choir
To help coach little league
Be in charge of the campfire
He longed for a title to hold
To have respect wherever he might go
And carry a billfold
He sought adult movements
To mimic their actions
Especially those of his parents
He cried when he couldn’t have his way
To be bigger than he needed to be
And to be like them in someway
He laughed with glee
To celebrate his achievement
When he was allowed responsibility
He grew into adulthood
To be as big as he should be
And began to miss childhood
He had children of his own
To them he was accountable
But soon they began to groan
He had little ones who wanted to be grown up
To drive a car, go to work
Carry a coffee cup
He had walked their trail
To desire time to move faster
All to no avail
He sat and talked to his little ones
To try and make them see
They should embrace his lessons
He let them know about his story
To the discovery he had made
Being grown up is not all it’s made out to be
