Sing a song of India
Sing joyfully
Paeans of praise
For God’s most gracious gifts
Of nature to the nation
For mountains and forests
Rivers and highlands
Glaciers and waterfalls
Plateaus and beaches
Beauty all around

For wildlife in abundance
Tiger and elephant
Lion and leopard
Camel and antelope
Rhino and buffalo
And a profuse variety
Of spectacular birds.



Sing a song of India
Sing sorrowfully
A soulful lament
With profound sadness
Over problems in the land
For droughts and earthquakes
Monsoon rains and flash floods

For poverty and overpopulation
Disease and malnutrition
Trafficking of humans
Children forced to labor

For darkness of religious beliefs
With worship of many gods
With temples and traditions
And violence toward missionaries.


Sing a song of India
Sing prayerfully
A song of hope
With praise to God
For a people here
Made in His image
Poets and architects
Artists and scientists
Doctors and educators
And every family unit.

Let melodies soar
With expectation
That the Gospel
Sent by God above
Will resonate
In the hearts of
India’s inhabitants.
