I have always-associated Christmas with the colors of red, green and white. Christmas means December. Christmas to me meant lot of snow, reindeer and lots of cake and ribbons. Christmas to me was buying and sending lot of greeting cards to friends, relatives and neighbors. Christmas means cold winter nights. Christmas means family dinners and get togathers.it means new clothes and doing up the house and hanging a huge glimmering star on the rooftop. Christmas is playing carols and lot of happy feeling.
I grew up with all these ideas and practices of Christmas. I couldn’t imagine Christmas in summer, spring or autumn. I couldn’t imagine Christmas without snow and reindeer. But the place where I lived never had snow or reindeer. I have never seen them in my whole life except on TV.
When I was born again, the lord changed me. I found that nowhere in the Bible, Christmas is mentioned. Jesus never told us to celebrate his birthday but he wanted us to live a life filled with His presence now and also in eternity. He came and died so that we would always live remembering Him, not just a day or a season. Neither prophet nor any apostle in the bible tells us to celebrate it. So how did it come about?
It really really got me thinking. . Celebrating Christmas never changed my life or my family. Once it is over, everything was the same. I began to learn that
Jesus wants us to remember him every moment and everyday of our lives, not just on Christmas day. More than our efforts to have a great Christmas, he’d rather that we make efforts to live a life, which would please Him. If we remember and love Him, we would love to change our lives by obeying His Word. We would hate sin and love righteousness.
Today I don’t believe in celebrating Christmas or in the festival of Christmas. But for me Christmas means living unto Christ, doing His will every moment and everyday of my life. And I know in my that this is what Jesus wants…. a life walking in His truth, a change of heart, knowing and feeling His presence and not celebrations that are just external and cosmetic. So it is Christmas everyday because He lives in my heart.
