On your mark, get set, go! A race to the cannon, around the flagpole, past the fence, and back to the steps of the American Legion. Summer days brought many games like that to my cousins and I until the dinner bell sounded.
Winter was quite different, ice packs and first aid kits were just as important as the snowballs we threw at each other. The smell of our bond fires brought strangers from miles away, but our guitars put babies to sleep that were only blocks away.
Fall brought us arts and crafts with leaves and sticks, and our parents the occasional job of removing ticks. The kids would sit around and wait for the leaves to fall off the tree like an exploding rainbow. The wind entertained us with whispers of melody and calming thoughts.
Spring exploded with bugs that lit up the air, and frogs that swam with us in the pool. The appearance of the first ladybug and the camping gear taken out of the attic.
I was always lucky to have a family that celebrated the whole year together, instead of a family that made up an excuse over something like the weather.

Have you tried poetry? This could use a little more plot or dialogue, but I love your imagery.
