It’s Rufus, your dog that moved on.
I’m here, up in heaven, with Jesus and John.
I’m sure it’s surprising to learn of my fate,
but it doubtless will help your emotional state.
Deep down, yes, you hope it; pets walk through these gates,
Balaam’s ass, David’s lamb, (someone’s monkey of late);
my puppy dog eyes, her cauliflower ears,
the fat ham on legs, all are welcome here.
I heard you while dying, my fur in your tears,
I heard you two talking—you and Pastor Beer.
You said there’s no heaven, no leafy green glades
where purebreds like me can rest in the shade.
You said we’ve no soul, so how can we be
in some place so goodly, so glorious and free?
I beg, Ma’am, to differ. Your logic is skewed;
some darn theologian should have it reviewed.
The Bible says lion and lamb shall be kind
and lie down together—no dinner in mind.
It says: all flesh will see salvation of Him;
it says that my future does not look so grim.
I’ve found that quite true--I’m having a ball--
I jump and I catch and I run and I crawl.
I’ve found one and all to be full libertarian--
as such we’ve all become staunch vegetarians.
I play with the kids; I roll in the forests;
I dig nice deep holes; I bark with the chorus.
Every hour there’s a treat or a walk in third gear,
and, dare I confess it? I’m happier here.
So cheer up dear Betsy, we’ll meet by and by,
(real soon’s what I figure…with your appetite for pie...).
It’s lovely up here—so peaceful, such bliss.
Hasta luego, dear Betsy,
And sealed,
with a kiss.

But were it really true, what would we do with the billions upon trillions of resurrected cockroaches? And the spiders? And I really don’t want to think about the mosquitoes! Does anyone out there keep skunks as a pet?
This is excellent... loved it!
Thanks for the fun!
Delightful read. I appreciate you sharing this.
