enshrouding Mauo's burnt nakedness
She rumbles gentle belly laughs
dogs barking with excitement
perhaps a little fearful at hissing white gums
of a sullen sea
threatening to foam-wrap them and
carry them away to join the wild white horses
thundering this way or that
stampeding before the nor'westers.
Pewter Sky rolls a rain darkened shroud
To hover over a young man trying to impress
His newest discovery
Chatted up at a party
who wouldn't share his bed
Perhaps now it will happen he hopes
Trying hard not to shiver strips to his boxers
And runs splashes and dives
tries not to scream
As the cold shocks the breath out of him
He stands and waves frantically to the girl
Look at me Look at me he is crying
In unison with the screeching of seagulls swooping
playing tag with wingtips
on the face of unbroken waves
Admire my stamina
my strength
my looks
He is calling unknowingly
The girl responds with a slight
Flap of an uninterested hand
Half raised
bored
cold
She drops his clothes onto the wet sand
Turns and walks to his friend
Lounging against the washed up half of a dinghy
Idly wondering what happened to the other half
He looks up to the girl and offers her the last puff
Of his joint
A hazy smile alters his acned face
As she holds out her hand to him
And they walk together to his car
Pewter Sky murmurs her sadness
for the young man in the ocean
She sighs amongst the softness of the pale dune grasses
Caressing them into joining her whispers of mutual sorrow
