“Freedom of Religion!” is what you boast. Equality is your stance.
All the while, a group of kids holding hands ‘round a pole in prayer
is told to stop - no room for their God in school or anywhere.
For some reason, I’m confused.
To keep our people safe from harm, you keep a watchful eye -
I even threw my nail file out before you’d let me fly.
But down the street a “medical clinic”, who guards your secrets well,
takes more lives than any plane or maniac terror cell
Am I missing something?
You say I should strive to do it all – mother, wife, career,
and in the meantime lose that gut and tighten up that rear!
Yet you claim my God’s demanding. That He asks too much of you.
Laying all your cares on Him is just too hard to do.
I think I’m still confused.
You boast of riches and work to gain as much as you can hold,
and you call me lazy and unmotivated when I refuse to strive for gold.
But as time passes your riches fade and your treasures lose their worth,
while the gems I’ve earned increase in value long after I leave this earth.
Maybe you’re confused.
You mocked me when I told of how God made you with His hands -
how He spoke the world into view and numbered the grains of sand.
You laughed out loud and told me how I evolved over millions of years.
Fins to arms, is what you said, and gills turned into ears.
You’re definitely confused.
You look to God when disaster strikes and cry out, “Are you there?”
Then, when you’re blessed, you run away from the only One who cares.
What you want is a genie in a bottle, at your beck and call
The god you desire is a cosmic bellhop, and not a god at all.
Confusion cured.
