Loosing weight has its benefits. It can also prove to be embarrassing if you are not careful. I had recently lost 60 pounds and I actually felt pretty good about walking around in a bathing suit. Now mind you, I wear a one piece and am modest enough that I wear a wrap around skirt over that unless I am in the water.
My husband and I had decided to take a short vacation to a near by lake. We were lucky enough to get a room at the Marina Lodge. The accommodations are really nice and the restaurant is very swanky. Upscale. I suppose if you are rich enough to own a boat then you are rich enough to eat in that restaurant. On Saturday evenings the restaurant at the Marina is packed.
It is a beautiful place with windows on all sides with a view of the lake. The entire facility has a wrap around porch. We had just come in from swimming and were ready to go back to our room. We could not find our key so it was my duty to walk around the porch outside the restaurant to the motel office to get a replacement key.
Feeling really good that day I suppose I had a little spring in my step. Sporting my new bathing suit and wrap around skirt I was happily walking past the windows where many people were dining and enjoying the view of the lake. I got about half way past one set of windows when I felt a really cool breeze on my legs. My wrap around skirt did not wrap around tight enough. As I walked it fell down to my ankles. Instinct said, “Keep walking” but that is difficult to do with a skirt around your ankles.
Thankfully there was a bench near by and I scooted over to the bench and sat down. I pulled the skirt up. I know my face was ten shades of red. I couldn’t help but turn around to see if anyone had seen me. They had seen me. When I looked in through the window several people were laughing. It really was funny. So I just sat right back down on the bench and laughed with them.
When I regained my composure I got the nerve to stand up and I tightened the skirt as tight as it would go and tied it in a knot. I quickly walked away and never looked back. I laughed all the way back to the room. Then I talked my husband into going back to the motel lobby to get the key. I just could not go back.
It is still funny as I think about the hundreds of people dining in that restaurant that got a little unintended side show that day. I am just thankful that I could laugh at myself too.
After we got home I was telling my mother in law about what happened. She started laughing and told me something similar had happened to her. She was in the grocery store one day, shopping peacefully. All of a sudden she felt a little lighter. She realized that her slip had slipped down around her ankles. Instead of pulling it back up, she just gingerly stepped out of it and left it behind pretending like it never happened.
I can only imagine what the stock boy thought when he was sweeping up.
The morale of this story is, keep your skirt tied tight and your slip from slipping.
