Today, I do not greet the morning with excitement and anticipation of an unknown journey with the Lord, yet with intense feelings of worry.
My mind bulges with worry over the hefty bill we just received in the mail. Anxiety takes over while I try to focus on the devotion or inspirational genre I need to write this week. I have concern over my son, who woke up with another head ache this morning. I’m disappointed in myself for not getting up early every day this week, to journal in my day book before the day’s “to do” list kicked in, etc, etc. The “worry” list goes on.
Just before I couldn’t take any more and was about to explode, I asked myself “why am I feeling this way? I know the most amazing person who designed me, who loves me, and knows my need before I do. He wants me to come before him, sharing the good, bad, and ugly. He wants to take care of me. After all, I’m just as important as the birds in the field.
There are people in this world digging in bins for food while my fridge and pantry are full. Others are dying of simple health issues while I am blessed with health care just up the road. My husband has a great job which provides steady work and steady pay. Why am I worried about money? Things have worked out before! My writing group and the latest Bible study have not put any expectations on me. They love me and want to encourage me. These expectations are my own doing.
My small, insignificant issues are pretty lame compared to many other people in this world. I know God will give me exactly what I need. Why should I be so full of anxiety, so full of worry when I have God I can turn to? He has a plan with lessons for me to learn and for this I am thankful.
Philippians 4:6-7
Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he’s done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
John 14:27
“I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world can not give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Today, the morning slips away but I know what I need to do. Thank you Lord.
