The Book Worm was feeling a little peckish so he perused his extensive library in search of something to nibble. It was a good thing his parents had been wise investors of their vast and impressive wealth . They had sacrificed and scrimped, dining on Reader's Digest Condensed Books and terribly written novels. They wanted their only child to have the absolute best; hence his rather expensive tastes. He had been known to devour entire series in one sitting. Especially children's books. They were so sweet and delicious. Melt in your mouth yumminess. He was constantly re-stocking The Little House on the Prairie books, The Chronicles of Narnia, everything by Alcott, the Oz collection and countless others.

No, it was too early for something sweet. Perhaps something a little heartier. He was rather fond of Treasure Island but it always left him with a terrible thirst due to its saltiness. His eyes skimmed over the titles huddled on the many shelves. The Jungle Book, The Swiss Family Robinson, Black Beauty, Rascal, At the Palace Gates, Follow My Leader, My Side of the Mountain, National Velvet, The Island of the Blue Dolphins...The Book Worm sighed. They were all wonderful. Harry Potter. Artemis Fowl. Anne of Green Gables. It got to be rather overwhelming at times to choose something. Bronte. Austin. Dumas. Poe. No Dickens; it gave him heartburn and definitely no James Fenimore Cooper; it gave him gas.

Perhaps he should look in another bookcase. Which one? There was one for Travel and one for History. Biographies, Poetry, Shakespeare, Mysteries and Short Stories plus countless others. Then the Book Worm spied the farthest case on the farthest wall: Antiques. Now, the books on these particular shelves were not about antiques or collecting antiques, they were antiques. These had belonged to his parents who scoured thrift stores and garage sales for out of print or one of a kind tomes. They were meant to be admired; not eaten. ( Just in case you didn't realize it, a book worm reads what he eats and eats what he reads.)

By now the Book Worm was down right hungry and he glanced upon a huge book marked The Holy Bible. How intriguing! What did that mean? What was it about? How did it taste? He hastily grabbed it off the shelf and tentatively crunched a corner. Mmmmmm! Was that honey in the pages?
He quickly gobbled the whole thing up and then belched loudly. He slowly slid down to the floor with a dreamy expression on his face. What a wondrous concoction of flavors and texture! There was lush sweetness and tart bitterness, tempered by a sprinkling of salt as if from tears. Sure, the begats had been a little dry but not overwhelmingly so. He had never eaten anything like it in his entire life. The Book Worm felt incredibly satisfied and at the same time ravenous for more. He jumped to his feet to search for another Bible but another was not to be found.

He quickly ran to his favorite bookseller and bought up every single Bible that they had in stock. Life Applications, Amplified, Message, Weust, NIV, KVJ; he bought them all. Now every day along with his ordinary fare, the Book Worm munches a Bible or two. He has became the healthiest, wealthiest and wisest book worm the village had ever seen. He happily tells others of this wonderful book and encourages them to take it off the shelf, dust it off and give it a bite. He promises them with a gleam in his eye that they will never feel hungry or thirsty again.
