“How long am I going to rally between them just because somehow they didn’t get things right and have refused to talk with each other?” As I thought about everything and each passing day my parents refused to talk with each other, my head blurred. I rubbed my forehead. We got to the car park. “How do we get out of this fix now?” I looked towards my fiancé in the car. He was ready. We were meant to be in church but had to see dad first. Things just didn’t look so good.
“Hey, take it easy!” my sister said. They both love you. They’ll have to put aside their differences for your sake especially now that you’re getting married. You don’t worry; you’ll have a beautiful wedding ok?”
“Nice expression of love, don’t you think?” I blurted out.
“Hey! You didn’t choose them, God gave them to you and He can take care of things, especially things like this.” She kissed me on the cheek. “Say hello to your mum will you?” and looking at both of us “you two should go out for a drink or something, afterall, it’s New Year day.” We all smiled.
“We will.” My fiancé said.
“Great!” My sister joyfully said.
She waved as we drove off.
“You’re ok?” my fiancé asked. I nodded. I didn’t really want to talk. It was hard to face, but the truth had to be confronted ‘you’re not married now because your parents don’t love each other anymore; they haven’t seen or spoken to each other in five years. You chose to live with your mother at the time of their separation, now you want your father’s blessing and you want them to reconcile. How in the world do you intend for that to happen?’ The words kept ringing in my head. That was the long and short of it. Emotions had been ruffled, especially mine.
“There is a way out. There is always a way out.” I knew His voice whenever I heard it. It was always so unmistakably calm and serene. He continued “why did Solomon offer a thousand burnt offerings instead of one? Why did Hannah make a vow? Why did David refuse to give to the Lord what cost him nothing? They needed something supernatural and gave something to receive it. Don’t you know that the Lord is unwilling to do without a cheerful giver whose heart is in his giving? You can give a special seed offering and everything will just blow over and become calm. You can have what you want. You don’t have to live in despair. A man’s gift makes room for him. Drop something special on the altar of God and see things turn around.” I winced as I heard the words.
“What can I give? I’m still looking for a job. I can’t even pay regular tithe.”
“What about every gift you ever got from the man that intends to marry you?”
My heart shook. “Did you say everything? The clothes, the footwear, the jewelry, the wrist watches, the keepsakes, everything?”
“Everything.” The instruction was final. “I’ll give you a month to round them all up.”
I swallowed the lump in my throat.
“That’s hard.” I said.
I could see His smile as He said “they that sow in tears shall reap in joy.”
I had to obey; I trusted His leadership inspite of my feelings. They went in three batches; everything. By the end of the month, I was ready with the last batch. That day, during service, I got up and walked silently to the altar with my sacrifice in my hand. I got to the altar, dropped the seed, and went back to my seat. Then it happened. The peace, it took over the whole of me. Oh! The joy mixed with the relief… the tears followed and that was the end of all my worries. The job came first, then my parent’s ability to stand each other and make civil conversation, and then a date and serious plans for the wedding, with of course my dad’s highly appreciated blessings.
When there’s an overwhelming challenge that needs a miracle, only the leading of the Holy Spirit can help you overcome it for He knows all things, and He can show you the pathway that leads to an expected end.
