Whatever form evil takes, there are times when it comes with such ugliness that it bring about near paralysis in our physical and mental reactions.
As Christians, we have instructions on what to do when evil attacks and threatens to stifle our walk with Jesus; we are to look to the Lord when demonic forces march upon us.
After Moses died, Joshua took over as human leader of the Israelites. He was ordained by God to carry out God’s plan for his cherished people, bringing them across the Jordan River and into their new homeland. I have no doubt that demonic forces wanted him to fail.
In fact, God was quick to command Joshua to toss aside his fear and worry concerning the forces of darkness that were about to confront him. Joshua 1:5 (NIV) reminds Joshua, “No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
As long as Joshua was doing the will of God, the fallen angels were of little threat to him. The same holds true with people who have decided to live their life for Christ. Evil will rear its ugly head, challenging the soundness of our beliefs, testing our spiritual fortitude, and wanting us to live for the rewards our current home rather than our eternal home. We must anticipate such attacks and be ready for the battle.
Psalm 55:16-19 (NIV) says, “But I call on God, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning, and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. He ransoms me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me. God, who is enthroned forever, will hear them and afflict them – men who never change their ways and have no fear of God.”
When God allowed His Son to pay the toll for our despicable sin of betrayal, the tragedy of suffering was given a short shelf life. See, my companion in Christ, the cross, and the Blameless Lamb nailed to it, put a limit on any trial or tribulation and the pain it may cause. We are new creatures with a new destination. Consider what Paul wrote in Romans 8:38-39 (NIV): “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Some evil forces may not know it yet, but they have all been defeated.
