I am a translator, poet and partly retired public servant living in Birmingham, England, and have a longstanding interest in foreign languages and other cultures and in translating and writing poetry. I began writing poems based on the Bible over 30 years ago, with a collection inspired by Jesus's parables. I made an acrostic version of Proverbs 31:10-31 (itself an acrostic poem in the original Hebrew) and then completed a long poem based on the Exodus. Between 1989 and 2008 I wrote a 4,500-line poem in rhyming couplets on the life of King David. My Bible-based poems, like my translations, are essentially 'labours of love', and I do not see them as a commercial or professional activity. I am very excited to have discovered and joined FaithWriters and to have the opportunity to read the diverse work of other members and to give and receive comments and encouragement. I am posting the following poetry on the FaithWriters website:
Parables (38 poems based on Jesus's parables);
The Perfect Wife (an acrostic version of Proverbs 31:10-31);
The First Nine Plagues (the first section of my poem The Exodus); and
David (a complete verse biography of King David).
I greatly appreciate the kind and encouraging comments I have received on my Writing Challenge entries from 2013 onwards and will try hard to comment more on the work of fellow writers. Any suggestions or requests regarding the use of my work may be sent direct to [email protected]
