At Hy-Vee where I work I'll sometimes see blind people walking around with a cane, and I'll usually feel sorry for them and thankful for my sight. One thing I noticed about blind people is that you'll probably never see them running, for obvious reasons. When I thought of that, this concept hit me out of the blue. I didn't plan for this to sound like "dead man walking" but... maybe that won't affect this too much. Thank you for reading and critiques! This is supposed to be a rock song about faith.
(This song is unfinished and right now I'm not sure how to make it sound, concerning structure and rhymes. Any suggestions are as valuable to me as gold!) The second half contains a faithwriter friend's suggestion for improvement and I think it's even better.
1 Listen, my friend, and I will tell you a riddle
About a blind man lives not far from here
Wherever he goes he runs fast
Can you figure out what it means?
2 People watch him go and wonder how he does this so easily
He never stumbles and always seems to know where he's headed
(Chorus) Blind... man... running
Watch him as he goes
Every right step to take he always seems to know
It seems so im-poss-i-ble
How can this be?
Maybe he's not as blind as we think
3 What's his secret? How does he do it?
He doesn't even need a cane.
He's always so happy and loving to those around him
Strange and amazing, a true miracle
4 Why does he stretch out his hand before him?
Like he's holding onto something in front of him?
Who is he talking to? Is there something pulling him?
Can you figure out what this means?
5 We live by faith and not by sight
We follow our Father through the darkest night
Don't doubt in the dark what he told you in the light
It may sound strange but He'll always lead you right
6 Though others simply can't understand
Just hang on tight to the Master's hand
We're the blind men and women in the world and we see what others can't
7 One day we'll see everything perfectly
The Father will open our eyes and we'll gaze into his face
We'll look back and see How perfectly he led us to our home
Hold tightly to His hand and run as fast as you can!
Trust Him with your life! Trust Him with your future! Trust Him with your money! Trust Him with your family! Trust Him with your occupation! Trust Him in all things! Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. He'll never leave you nor forsake you! Hold on!
SUGGESTED WORDS BY A. WAL
1. Listen close my friend,
I have a riddle for you
about a certain man
who does what no one can do.
Wherever he goes
he runs as fast as he can
just the same as most
except he is a blind man.
2. People watch in amazement
as he does this,
he never stumbles or slips,
he is marvelous.
3. What is his secret?
They can't help but wonder,
he doesn't even need a cane.
He's always so happy
and a people lover,
everyone found him strange.
4. Why are his hands stretched out
like he's holding onto something?
Tell me what this is about.
Can you tell me what this means?
(5. stays the same.)
6. Though others simply can't understand,
just hang on tightly to the Master's hand.
Left in the world every woman
God brings us to our feet and makes us stand.
7. One day we'll see everything perfectly,
The Father will open our eyes to see.
We'll look into His face
and know surely
that we can run fast,
if we hold tightly.
(The Chorus) Blind...man..running
Watch him as he goes
Every step he takes
It's as tough he knows.
It seems so impossible
How can this be?
He's nothing less than a miracle,
to all who can see.
Trust Him with your life
Trust Him with your future
Trust Him with your money
and all those you treasure.
Trust Him with your occupation
Trust Him in all things
faith comes by hearing,
Hearing each word God brings.
He'll never leave you nor forsake you,
This I know is true.
He holds out His hand before you,
he wants to make you new.
Now don't you understand?
Please tell me that you do.
Take the Father's hand
Tis something to hold on to.
