Impala. Just the word was enough to make his heart skip a beat. He was 16, and he and his two best friends had an ongoing love affair with the old cars. Driving down city streets, looking behind houses, and wandering through junkyards, they were on a mission to find ‘The Perfect Car’.
Watching the zeal with which they prepared for their hunt was catching. One day as I waved goodbye, it struck me. This is what God is like. He has an ongoing love affair with people. Your name is enough to make His heart skip a beat. He steps out of His door with a smile on His face and joy in His heart because He’s coming to find you.
You may feel like you’ve been abandoned. Maybe you think you’re used goods, not wanted. You feel broken, shattered into a million tiny pieces. So you hide. You put on a mask. You pretend, but everything is really not okay. You wonder, why would God want someone like me? I’m no good. Besides, I don’t believe that He really cares about me.
Why would He want you? Maybe for the same reason the boys want these old cars. They both see below the surface. They both see the potential that’s there. They see what can be again, or maybe what can be for the very first time, because of the touch of a Master.
God sees you when you’re hiding. He sees you when you’ve been abandoned. But He sees you through His eyes, not man’s. God loves you completely, unconditionally, and without reserve. See the delight in His eyes when He finds you, and experience the joy of the Master’s touch.
