“Third Shift”
It is dark, I am alone and afraid.
Every noise I hear shatters the silence.
I am drawn into the clutches of the unknown.
My sinking heart is captured.
I see fleeting dark shadows.
The hairs on my arms rise up.
I fantasize about what might be out there.
I recall every horror story from the news.
My breaths are short and labored.
My ears are attuned to every tic of the clock.
It sounds like a dripping faucet.
I long for morning.
I speak your words; out loud.
Fear thou not; for I am with thee:
Be not dismayed; for I am thy God:
I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee;
Yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Is 41:10 KJV
I am thankful that God never sleeps.
