"You are a very selfish person" God accused. I did not understand the question because I never considered myself as selfish. I did not understand what it means to be selfish. When I sought a deeper understanding I searched the dictionary. I concluded I was a selfish person. Selfishness involves putting our needs, etc. above those of others. We can become so self absorbed in ourselves that we can not think of others. There is only one perspective and that is our perspective. Selfishness has no room for the opinions of others. Jesus told us we must love God and our neighbor as ourselves. The selfish person can not love God as he should because his first love is himself. He is on the throne of his heart. He is the center of his life. He sees life from one perspective and that is his perspective.
The selfish person takes but is unable to give. Selfishness is a way of life until we are born again. We are naturally selfish. Each individual is a God unto himself. This is a result of the fall. Jesus came to break down those barriers and restore the original order. The original order was God on the throne of our lives.
After careful meditation and prayer, I understood I concluded I was selfish person. There was only one way and that was my way. I did not realize the extent of my selfishness until an experience with God exposed my selfishness. Being selfish results in an inability to share. I knew I shared things with others. How was I selfish? My understanding was limited just as the understanding of others is limited. Before we can overcome selfishness we must better understand it. I ask the reader “are selfishness?
