I love a good quote. It’s amazing what just the right words can do: make you smile, laugh, think, cry, or even change your life.
Of course, many of my favorite “quotes” are from the Bible, but there are other folks who have good stuff to say too. So, I thought I’d share some of them with you today – on writing.
Firstly – the quotation I chose as my motivational writing quote a few months ago (which some, apparently, find depressing LOL – different strokes, apparently!).
“A writer is a writer not because she writes well and easily, because she has amazing talent, because everything she does is golden. In my view a writer is a writer because even when there is no hope, even when nothing you do shows any sign of promise, you keep writing anyway.” Junot Diaz
And a few others:
“If there’s a book you really want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” Toni Morrison
“The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.” Mark Twain
“You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you. And we edit to let the fire show through the smoke.” Arthur Polotnik
“No author dislikes to be edited as much as he dislikes not to be published.” Russell Lynes
“A good novel tells us the truth about its hero; but a bad novel tells us the truth about its author.” G.K. Chesterton
“Having imagination, it takes you an hour to write a paragraph that, if you were unimaginative, would take you only a minute. Or you might not write the paragraph at all.” Franklin P. Adams
“The story I am writing exists, written in absolutely perfect fashion, some place, in the air. All I must do is find it, and copy it.” Jules Renard
“Writing is an act of faith, not a trick of grammar.” E.B. White
“Writing about music is like dancing about architecture.” Laurie Anderson
“You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.” Octavia Butler
So, which of these quotes did you like/appreciate/relate to most? Do you have another you’d like to share?

I have this strong desire to be a freelance writer,,,I just need some help? How could I make this dream a reality? Please? Any help?
I like: “If there’s a book you really want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” Toni Morrison
And another favorite:
“The single biggest problem with communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” George Bernard Shaw
“Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man.”
from Of Studies by Francis Bacon
The last quote made me think that it brings a whole new meaning to “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
I also tend to follow what is written in the first quote.
Sometimes, I use quotes as writing prompts.
Wow! thank you so much for sharing this remarkable piece of information. It may interest you to know that i wrote and posted something similar (Inspirational Revolution) on my blog today. And reading yours does a lot to confirm that the Author of creativity is indeed the source and center of every writer. I am particularly touched by this quote because it is a feeling that i can relate to: ” No author likes to be edited as much as he dislikes not to be published.” Russel Lynes.
Here is one of mine i would like to share:”Great writers bring an element of simplicity to their write-ups, even though the world of writing and getting published is a complex one.”~Don Chuckie
The first quote I like most. It gave me the inspiration to write the book which I really want. So My First book begins here….
