I do
n’t know about you, but I LOVE a good quote. It can motivate me, make me smile, or even get me back on the right track.
And there are a LOT of incredible writing quotes out there – by the famous and not so famous. Ones to inspire us. Ones that make us groan. Ones that make something come into focus. And I don’t know about you – but I could certainly use some of that.
So, here are some of MY favorites. Feel free to share your own in the comments.
.
“A writer is a writer not because she writes well and easily, because she has amazing talent, because everything she does is golden. In my view a writer is a writer because even when there is no hope, even when nothing you do shows any sign of promise, you keep writing anyway.” Junot Diaz
“If there’s a book you really want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” Toni Morrison
“The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.” Mark Twain
“You write to communicate to the hearts and minds of others what’s burning inside you. And we edit to let the fire show through the smoke.” Arthur Polotnik
“No author dislikes to be edited as much as he dislikes not to be published.” Russell Lynes
“A good novel tells us the truth about its hero; but a bad novel tells us the truth about its author.” G.K. Chesterton
“Having imagination, it takes you an hour to write a paragraph that, if you were unimaginative, would take you only a minute. Or you might not write the paragraph at all.” Franklin P. Adams
“I love being a writer. What I can’t stand is the paperwork.” Peter De Vries
“Ink on paper is as beautiful to me as flowers on the mountains; God composes, why shouldn’t we?” Terri Guillemets
Which of these quotes are your favorites? Do you have a writing quote to share?

Enjoyed reading this quotes. I ran into one this past week by Lorraine Walker on the ACFW Blog. “Our Savior gave his life because he loves us. My writing cannot be separated from that love. As inspirational novelists, we find ourselves weaving the love of our Lord into every book.” Love that! And may we weave the love of our Lord into our personal Life Stories, too.
oooh, love all these and so many more. I’m going to start with one of mine about my favorite Writer
“God is such an amazing author…I can’t wait to turn the page each day to see what He has next for my life.” ~Sarah Elisabeth
And this I read yesterday:
“Don’t die with the story still in you.” ~Florence Littauer
“A writer should write what he has to say and not speak it.” ― Ernest Hemingway
is my fave!
Mary and Sarah – I LOVE the ones you added
Oooh – yours too, Dawn!
” From a seed, in one mind’s eye, to a tree, for all eyes to see – that’s what writing means to me. ” – Bryan Rudolph
” Have something to say. ” – Matthew Arnold
I love quotes, too. Have a file box filled with them.
One of y newest favorites is by Katherine Patterson.
“Fiction is not the Gospel. But it can be a voice crying in the wilderness–and for the writer and the reader who know grace it will not be a cry of despair but a cry of hope–a voice crying in our wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord.
Jean Hall
