According to HolidayInsights.com, yesterday was Take Your Dog to Work Day. Not sure exactly why anyone would want to take their dog to work, but hey. To each their own.
But this got me wondering. What do you take with you to your writing desk? Do you have a favorite pen? A water bottle, coffee caraffe, a big bowl of chocolate? Do you keep a particular writing reference book nearby or your handy-dandy notepad? Your comfy furry slippers?
When you sit down to write, what do you take with you?

Hum, I often take my cat/cats to work at my writing desk – amazing what a purrrr in your lap can do for inspiration – then there are the paws on the mouse…. oooppps
Besides my ever present, but cold cup of coffee I have my flip dictionary with me. I love words, playing and working with them and this book helps me discover just the right word when In need it.
Coffee is a must followed by my dictionary and thesaurus.A good Cd popped in the computer helps too!
I can’t believe I missed take your dog to work day! Lucy would have loved that. When I sit down to write, I have my laptop, my notebook and pen, a cold beverage, and usually my Bible.
Always have a cup of tea that sits on the window sill, and I sit on an old couch in our house office. Our dog, Zeke, is at my feet. My cat usually sleeps on the back of the couch up close to my shoulder. I guess you could say they’re my in-house editors.
A cup of hot green tea in the morning….a glass of iced green tea in the afternoon. I work mostly on my laptop propped up in my king-sized bed or in my easy chair in the living room or out on the patio. I have several resources bookmarked on my computer, so I usually do not have any tangible items with me for reference.
Oh, my two dachshunds are often my armrests! Can’t imagine working without them!
When I write I have one dog on my lap, one next to me and another sleeping at my feet or behind my chair. It’s very cozy. I also have my diet Mt. Dew, my calendar, my phone and my reference books. (I’m currently writing a collection of biographies for kids.)
Right now with the flu I have my tissues and cough drops handy, too.
Prayers that you feel better soon, Karla.
A good dose of inspiration and some lifesavers!
Wish I could write all day, but usually it is early in the morning. I have a cup of coffee, that also gets cold before finished.
No animals for me I’am alergic.
Iced, sugar-free hazelnut, decaf latte!
