Thanks to my friend Pam (visit her blog, Apples of Gold, HERE), who reminded me yesterday that this week has been dubbed, Words Matter Week by the National Association of Independent Writers and Editors. Here is the quote this special week is based on:
“Without words, without writing and without books there would be no history, there could be no concept of humanity.”
There is even a poster you can download from the site. Visit the Words Matter blog here: http://wordsmatter.naiwe.com/2011/02/01/get-ready-for-words-matter-week-2011/
As writers, we love words. All kinds of words. Obviously, if we didn’t love words, we wouldn’t be writers, right? Of course, as Christians, we know the word that matters most is THE Word. So my question for you this week is:
Is there a specific verse or passage from The Word that has significant meaning for you? Maybe helped you through a tough time or that you find yourself quoting again and again?

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken says the Lord…” Isaiah 54:10
This verse is the basis of my testimony, feeling unworthy of love until I had a revelation of His love!
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
All of the second chapter of Philippians 2 is my ‘life chapter’. It’s not all about me!
I have three favorite passages of encouraging Bible verses that are my “life verses.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
Romans 8:28 – we KNOW that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
Those two passages then enable me to know I can, indeed, “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Such wonderful blessings from God!
I love your post today! Yes, I’m passionate about words and God’s Word.
A few years ago, my husband and I moved to Africa with a mission agency, and my assignment was in journalism — gathering stories for our organization’s various publications around the world. I must admit I felt let down because that kind of work seemed so remote, so removed from the heart of the ministry. It lacked meaning for me. For a year and a half I mourned having that job assignment until one day I stumbled upon a Bible verse that says we are to tell others of the marvelous things God is doing–and it finally clicked with me. In my job assignment, I had the opportunity to proclaim to others the amazing things God was doing in and through the mission organization I worked for. From finding that one verse, I found another, then another, and it revolutionized my ministry. I was on fire! I LOVED my job! Just think–I had the great privilege of proclaiming God’s mighty deeds! Celebrating God!
Here are just a few of the verses (but there are more):
Ps 9:11… Proclaim among the nations what [God] has done
Ps 68:34a Proclaim the power of God
Ps 118:17 I will…proclaim what the Lord has done.
Ps 145:6 …Tell of the power of your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds.
I had another “Aha” moment about 5 years ago when Deut. 4:9 jumped off the page at me. It tells us to always remember, and never forget, what we’ve seen God do, and to be sure to tell our children and grandchildren. That verse inspired me to develop materials for spiritual memoir classes that I’ve been teaching now for 5 years, based on that verse.
This is probably a much longer reply than you were expecting, but thanks for letting me share my excitement with you.

Awesome verses! They’re all so good, aren’t they? Keep ‘em coming.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13
7 “But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’” ~Mark 16:7
Specifically, I love the “and Peter” section. Jesus was sending a signal to Peter that he was included. Jesus knew that Peter was devastated and dejected, and wanted to him to know he was not forgotten. Love that! Jesus not only died for ALL of us, He died for EACH of us. “and Peter”. And Vicky.
My post about it is here, Oil In My Lamp: Imperfect Servant
I wrote the following little snippet about words several years ago. As I say in my Faithwriter’s profile, I’m hooked on words.
“Without words the mind is a wasteland, songs have no meaning, emotions are without expression and ideas are impotent.
Words are, “the dress of thought” (Dickens), and the fabric from which we fashion our written and verbal expressions. They can be friend or foe, with the power to wound, heal, inspire. We count on them to comfort us, direct us, and educate us. Without words, our lives are crosswords puzzles with nothing to fill the empty spaces.
In whatever form of expression, words allow us transcribe all that we know about life.”
Of course, many favorite words come from the Scriptures. Among them, Be strong and of good courage, do not be afraid, nor be dismayed for the Lord thy God is with you wherever you go (Josh. 1:9).
“ Who do you say that I am ? ” – Matthew 16:15.
Our answer to Jesus’ question is our rudder of reality, setting sail to all other verses.
Thanks again for mentioning my apples of gold blog (wordglow.wordpress.com), Lynda.
Some of my favorite words from THE WORD are:
Zeph 3:17 — I love the thought of God singing songs of joy over us, quieting us with his love!
Zec 2:5 – The Lord showed me this beautiful promise and made it leap off the page a few years ago when I was interceding for someone to give their heart to the Lord – “I myself will be a wall of fire around it,” declares the Lord, “and I will be the glory within.” Even though this speaks of jerusalem, the Lord showed me it applies to us and those we pray for as well..
Deut 33:12 – Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in Him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between His shoulders.” (I love that this shows the Lord “hugging” us)
Ps 91 – I pray this always! Wondrous promises!
Ps 112:7,8 – After my doctor called a few years ago to tell me I had cancer, I had an instant thought — “I guess I just heard bad news…” I immediately opened right to this great verse “he will have no fear of bad news, his heart is steadfast trusting in the Lord. His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.” God gave me instant peace and brought me thru with triumph as the doctors got it all in surgery. He is faithful to his word – another favorite verse that promises his word never goes out empty but accomplishes what it is sent out to do!!
