I am a regular book reviewer at FaithfulReader.com and have been privileged to review some awesome books lately. While I get to choose books I want to review from a list, I am always drawn to specific genres. Most recently, I reviewed a wonderful suspense/thriller (which will be posted to FaithfulReader.com next month). This was the most quickly I’ve turned pages in a long time and it turned out to be one of the best books I’ve read in the past year. I definitely think that suspense is my favorite genre to read and is my first choice every time.
What about you? When you visit a bookstore or library, which section do you hit first?

I very often go for the author instead of the genre. I like books by David McCullough which ar eusually history or biographical history, Christian fiction by such authors as Jerry Jenkins, Tim LaHaye, and Joel Rosenberg, or Christian non-fiction by some of the same authors.
I love books from the inspirational section and that’s where I gravitate first, whether “how to” or biography or fiction.

Once I start reading Calvin & Hobbes, I can’t put it down.
What a fun and thought-provoking question! I love Christian mysteries and suspense thrillers as well, but if I pick one up I’ll never put it down and never get back to writing.
I’ve learned the hard way what my limitations are, that’s for sure.
I’m doing book reviewing for Multnomah and for them, I either pick Christian inspiration like one of the new Kay Arthur books, or I head straight for books that are perfect to share with grandparents and their grandchildren. Both fit well with my Sandwich Generation website, the inspirational books are great but easier to put down, and the kids’ books are fun but usually fast reads.
But someday – I’m going to take a vacation and dive into the box of Christian fiction novels I occasionally buy and put straight into a box for the future (and for sharing).

Lately I’ve been reading what I win on blogs LOL. Historical fiction, though, is so interesting to me. Keeping my eyes out for giveaways.
Mystery! Suspense, not so much, but if it’s rolled in which a good mystery, I’ll read it. As long as there’s some kind of puzzle to be solved, I’ll happily keep on reading until I reach the end. I also love allegorical fantasy(like the Donita K. Paul books). Fun question!
The first section I hit is the sale/clearance tables. I want to see if any of my favorite authors are there, or any new authors I might be interested in. If I can get them off the sale table, maybe I can get several books instead of just one.
I read a lot of mystery and suspense. I tend to go for women authors. But I don’t want the ones that are fluff. I want a hardcore, deep mystery. The reason I tend to go for women authors is because they usually leave out the sex and violence.
I also read all of the Thoene’s books, and follow their FB page.
Hi – I wonder if I know any of you. I write for Love Inspired (Steeple Hill) and Barbour Publishing and live in the Detroit area of Michgan. Working on my 46th novel with two more contracted books to write, and a cofounder of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW). Right now I’m in Florida at a writer’s conference this evening doing keynote address and teaching a workshop tomorrow morning.
Gail, I don’t think I met you in Denver – that was the only ACFW conference I’ve attended so far – but I definitely know who you are.
