QUICK UPDATE: Many of you may know that the FaithWriters server was down yesterday. Scott worked really hard to get it up and running again and is now in the process of restoring the backup and fixing all the errors. You may be unable to log onto the site at this time, but the message boards are back in action!
Since the server crashed the night before the new Challenge topic was to be announced and the entries for the week were supposed to be posted (I know…terrible timing, right?), the topic will remain the same through next Thursday, so you’ll have plenty of time to submit your entry.
For now, hang tight. We thank you for your patience!
OK…now
for the Free-for-All Friday question.
We all know that writers are usually obsessive readers. Personally, I often have a handful of books going at one time. So my question for you this week is…
What book is on your nightstand? Or, what are you currently reading and would you recommend it to others? If you aren’t reading anything at the moment (gasp!), what is the last book you read?
Books I’m currently reading are:
Don’t Look Back by Lynette Eason – YES! This is a page turner and I would totally recommend it to those who enjoy suspense. This is the second book in the Women of Justice series and I’ll be posting a review on my blog next week.
The Shack – my husband and I are reading this together. This book has been sort of controversial for some, but I am absolutely loving it.
Your turn. What’s on your night stand?

I have a Nook on my nightstand…
I love it! No matter what mood I’m in, I can find a book to read. Currently reading Dean Koontz’s “Husband”. I haven’t found a Dean Koontz book I wouldn’t recommend. I love all his stuff. The other book I’m reading is “Christian Athiest” by Pastor Craig Groeschel. Awesome book! It’s about Christians who live as if God didn’t exist. Very thought provoking, with a call to return to our first Love.
“Heaven is for Real” by Todd Burpo. I’m not one to read “I went to heaven and came back stories” but this one is amazing. It’s about a four year old that did just that – don’t want to say too much, but there is no way to explain what he tells his parents – stuff he could never have known as a child. You HAVE to HAVE to Have to read this one.
Also finishing up “Her Daughter’s Dream” by Francine Rivers – who could never write a bad book.
Lynda – I’ve read “The Shack” two times, listened to the book on CD three times and I love it too.
I’ve not tried The Shack yet…might check into it…once my TBR list dwindles a bit. lol…
Right now:
“Rooms” by James Rubart
“Adam” by Ted Dekker
A couple of homeschool books.
My nightstand has some lotion and a fan on it
LOL! I have to have the white noise.
I am currently reading “The hole in our gospel” by Richard Stearns. I’m not far enough into it to recommend it yet but I have a feeling I probably will.
The last book I read was, “Edge of Eternity” by Randy Alcorn. I would highly recommend it and any other book by him. He’s amazing!
I like The Shack, too!! Right now I’m about to finish “Skin” by Ted Dekker (SPOOKY!), and next is “Deception” by Randy Alcorn. I haven’t read anything by him yet, so I’m glad to see he’s recommended.
I’m also (slowly) reading “Forgotten God” by Frances Chan. Love it.
Journey of Desire by John Elderedge,
Influence of Greek Ideas and Usages Upon the Christian Church by Edwin Hatch,
What Are Spiritual Gifts? : Rethinking the Conventional View by Kenneth Berding,
John Adam – Biography,
Manners and Customs of the Bible
Bird by Bird, by Anne Lamott, The Song of Songs, by Watchman Nee, NIV bible, Beth Moore Patriarchs study guide, latest issues of Creative Non Fiction and The Sun, journal, spiral notebooks, pens, highlighters, booklight….
The Lord’s Prayer by RT Kendall, Plan B by Pete Wilson (what do you do when God doesn’t show up the way you thought He would?), Psychology and Your Life by Robert Feldman — not recommended as leisure reading, unless of course you are into text books for pleasure (*grin*), Abundant, Faithful, True by Kay Arthur, Priscilla Shirer, and Beth Moore (a bible study). A pencil box filled with pencils and another one filled with Pilot extra fine point gel pens in a variety of colors and highlighters.
I have the Bible.
How nice to read through the responses. Now I have some good ideas for what to read next. I don’t really have a nightstand, but I do have a cedar chest–and, though it’s usually a fiction title hovering over the edge of it, now it’s the 16th edition of The Canadian Press Stylebook–which is actually very fascinating. I think I’m fictioned out for a little while.
I absolutely LOVED The Shack, btw. I was late in reading it, too, because I positively refuse to read anything when it’s ‘all the hype,’ and this one was well worth the wait for me.
Thanks for your blog.
I loved The Shack! Great read.
I am currently reading Karen Kingsbury’s newest release… Unlocked. As always, Karen has hooked me from the first two pages. I won’t put it down until complete.
I have my spiritual mother’s old Gideon New Testament on my nightstand.
The last three books I read were Reader’s Digest “Great Biographies”:Andrew and Rachel Jackson”, “Winston Churchill”, and Theodore Roosevelt”- not yet finshed with “St. Francis of Assisi”. Also just read “If I Perish”, by Esther Ahn Kim. I highly recommend it! At the moment am reading “Immortal Wife”, by Irving Stone.
Honestly, I have not read for enjoyment in a long time. Have my nose in text books right now. However, I am working my way through Robert Schnase’s “Five Practices of Fruitful Living.” I want to teach it to my SS class later in the Spring.
