All of this week’s questions have to do with writing (hence, the title of this post: A Writer’s Meme)
Here are your questions (and my answers).
What’s your favourite genre of writing? Mystery/Suspense
How often do you get writer’s block? Hmmm…usually around chapter 4 or 5 of my novels, but never on articles. Always have a plethora of ideas.
How do you fix it? Going to the movies with my refillable bucket of popcorn and a large Diet Coke.
Do you type or write by hand? 60 seconds of writing by hand = major writer’s cramp. I love my laptop!
Do you save everything you write? Losing an entire book taught me a valuable lesson. Now I use Mozy.com to backup everything.
Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it? Sure!
Do you have a constructive critic? My fabulous crit partner, Susan, who sings my praises and kicks me in the pants at the same time.
Did you ever write a novel? Yep, it’s with an agent now.
What genre would you love to write but haven’t? I really don’t think there’s a genre I haven’t tried at one time or another.
What’s one genre you have never written, and probably never will? Except fantasy. Not my bag.
How many writing projects are you working on right now? 4, I think.
Do you write for a living? Do you want to? I want to and I do!
Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper? Yes and No, respectively.
Have you ever won an award for your writing? A few…
Do you ever write based on your dreams? Not yet.
Do you favor happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers? Depends on the story. And my mood.
YOUR TURN! Don’t forget to copy and paste this meme to your blog.
HAVE FUN!

Oh fun! I’m going to have to do this on my blog. I’ll schedule it for Monday.
What’s your favourite genre of writing? Biblical Fiction
How often do you get writer’s block? On occasion
How do you fix it? Work on something else, or play FaceBook scrabble
Do you type or write by hand? Both – much of my writing (at least during the school year) is while sitting for a few minutes somewhere – often in the car. By hand is handy. I think I have 100 pages of handwritten words on my current fiction WIP. LOVE the puter tho. I’m planning to get all that input soon so I can see what I have – and FIX it!
Do you save everything you write? Most everything.
Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it? Yup
Do you have a constructive critic? Patty Wysong (Peejers) and I do that for each other.
Did you ever write a novel? Have written a novel-length manuscript (nonfiction) and have a novel in the works.
What genre would you love to write but haven’t? Thanks to the FW genre quarter, I’m not sure I can say there is one.
What’s one genre you have never written, and probably never will? Can’t think of one really
How many writing projects are you working on right now? Depends on how you define projects – but as far as large-scale, two
Do you write for a living? Do you want to? I’d like to, but don’t – partly due to lack of time (don’t ask about the other part LOL)
Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper? Yes – have had a handful of pieces published in magazines, and I worked as a newspaper reporter for a few years.
Have you ever won an award for your writing? Yup
Do you ever write based on your dreams? I’ve gotten dreams about what I was writing – does that count?
Do you favor happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers? Depends on the story. And my mood.

What’s your favourite genre of writing? Too hard. I like flash fiction though, if that counts.
How often do you get writer’s block? Not too often. Usually it’s just being too lazy to write.
How do you fix it? Just wait until I have an idea.
Do you type or write by hand? Type, although I like handwriting.
Do you save everything you write? It’s a bad habit of mine. I should really throw away all the half-finished, extremely lame stories. But I can’t.
Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it? I have before. Usually I’m on to new things, though.
Do you have a constructive critic? No.
Did you ever write a novel? No, but I’m planning on it this November!
What genre would you love to write but haven’t? Mystery. I love Agatha Christie.
What’s one genre you have never written, and probably never will? Romance. I hate reading it, and I’m sure I would hate writing it.
How many writing projects are you working on right now? Uhm, not counting the unfinished ones I’ve given up on, 2.
Do you write for a living? Do you want to? No, but I would love to.
Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper? Magazine, yes, but the magazine went under before they could publish it. Just my luck.
Have you ever won an award for your writing? Nope.
Do you ever write based on your dreams? I get ideas for stories when I’m half-asleep sometimes, but other than that, no.
Do you favor happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers? Happy, definitely, although I’ll take a sad ending if it’s good enough.
nice info…i love to get FUN! I’ll try to post it to my blog. Thanks
How often do you get writer’s block? Whenever I’ve been away from writing for awhile, it’s always painfully tough to get back into practice. Other than that, I’m usually pretty inspired.
How do you fix it? Music is always good, and I like to reread my own writings to get back in touch with my own “voice” as well as characters. I also find that the more inspired I am in life, the more inspired my writing is.
Do you type or write by hand? I type fiction; I write out poetry.
Do you save everything you write? Definitely! I learned this lesson the hard way – years ago, I got disgusted with a novella I’d written and deleted it. Now I’d give anything to be able to get it back – the story was terrific and it would be such a great piece to flesh out!
Do you ever go back to an old idea after I’ve abandoned it? I never abandon everything! Everything is always a work in progress. I forget who said that no poem is ever finished until the poet dies, but I totally agree!
Do you have a constructive critic? The most incredible constructive critic I’ve ever had was the professor/author who taught my fiction workshop in college, Wayne Karlin. I learned more about writing in general and my own strengths and weaknesses as a writer in the one semester I took with him than I’d learned in all the years before. Now that I’m out of school, I’ve sort of had to become my own critic, which is a really good skill to develop, but isn’t quite as satisfying.
Did you ever write a novel? Yup, several!
What genre would you love to write but haven’t? Wow… I think I’ve tried everything at least a little bit, but I think I’ve dabbled the least in historical fiction, which kind of makes sense since I don’t like to read it, either.
What’s one genre you’ve never written, and probably never will? Hm… nothing comes to mind…
How many writing projects are you working on right now? I’m pretty bouncy – I always have a couple of stories in my head.
Do you write for a living? No, I do not, although I do “write to live”.
Do you want to? I’d love to use my writing skills for a living, but I really don’t want to write for a living. I’m not very self-disciplined and I don’t think I’ve make a very good novelist, for instance.
Have you ever written anything for a magazine or a newspaper? No – but I’d love to!
Have you ever won an award for your writing? No, but I made my professor laugh.
Not an easy task!
Do you ever write based on your dreams? Absolutely! Some of my favorite stories started as dreams.
Do you favor happy endings, sad endings, or cliffhangers? I favor a well-crafted ending. An ending shouldn’t just be something that happens because the writer has run out of things to write about – it should be the logical and inevitable conclusion. I’m actually a fan of ambiguous endings if they’re ambiguous for a good reason.
