Up A Lazy River
by Pam Ford Davis

The heat is oppressive; families push air conditioners to the limit, and people of all ages rush to their favorite places to swim. How would you describe yourself at the lake, ocean, stream, or river a wader or swimmer? Do you timidly put your toes in the water, sit on the edge and dangle your feet, or slowly wade deeper? Maybe you enjoy the jolt of cold water and jump right in!

Many start wading, gradually go deeper, build up their courage and begin to swim. They then enjoy the depths of water to swim or float; some do underwater stunts like standing on their hands. Laughter fills the air as children swim with their friends. In the distance, some are still only ankle deep in the water.

Are we willing to take the plunge of faith? (Ezekiel 47:1-12) The prophet receives a vision of things to come. He sees a body of water. It begins trickling near the temple. It then reaches his ankles, up to his knees, and at his waist. “and it was a river that I could not cross (on foot). For the water had risen; it was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be crossed (on foot) (Ezekiel 47:5b HCS).” I heard a message on this text over forty years ago; the evangelist used it as an illustration of the Spirit filled and controlled life. In faith, I desire to go deeper.
