For most of us, summer is right around the corner. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait! Warmer weather…trips to the pool…sitting outside in the shade with a good book…
There are plenty of things to do in the summer, and I’m sure you have your favorites. So, I challenge you to write about a summer activity you look forward to. It could be picnicking, camping, boating, swimming, going to the park with your kids, engaging in a water fight, whatever it is you love to do.
Write your story (fiction or non) in the comments section and keep it to 100 words or less.
Let’s anticipate summer together!
Put on your sun helmet and tackle it!

I was fortunate to grow up in a home with a swimming pool in the back yard. Each year I looked forward to the removal of its protective cover. Dad vacuumed any debris that accumulated, added water and treated it with chemicals. I prayed for sunshine to bring the water temperature to a tolerable level. Finally the time came to jump in! Oh how refreshing! Mom watched as my sister and I swam for hours, creating whirlpools, playing “Marco Polo”, and “canon-balling” into the deep end until are our lips were blue and our teeth chattered! How I loved summer!
I live in Fort Walton Beach, Florida along the Gulf coast. I grew up on the East coast, so I have always been around beaches. My favorite summer activity to do is take walks on the beach and look for seashells. Here in Fort Walton the beaches have sand that is as white as sugar and the water is a beautiful emerald green, so that makes it especially breathtaking! As long as this oil leak in the Gulf does not make it here this summer, I plan on doing the same thing and taking some wonderful pictures!
With blue sky and bright sunshine hovering overhead, I hold on to the bill of my cap as we speed across the lake in our 19 foot pleasure boat. Going to the lake on weekends during the summer comprises my season of mini-vacations. While my husband digs through his tackle box for the right lure and carefully attaches it to his line, I am prone on the back of the boat just taking in the warmth of the sun. It is my time to let my mind run free, taking me to places that take my stress away.
Great memories! Makes me even more anxious for summer!
