Today begins the daily blog themes! As promised, on Mondays we’ll focus on the thing that makes FaithWriters so special – the members!
Chances are, you’ve heard the name Jan Ackerson. Not only is Jan the 2008 winner of the Writing Challenge’s Best of the Best for her entry, Sniggles, she also hosts Jan’s Writing Basics on the FaithWriters forums. But even with her name plastered all over the FaithWriters site, chances are there are a few things you don’t know about Jan. Join me in learning a little more about her:
Message Board User Name: glorybee
How long have you been a FaithWriters member? Since 2004
Thing you love most about FaithWriters: The friendships I’ve made, and the opportunity to wield my Red Pencil of Terror.
Favorite Platinum 500 perk: Definitely the Writing Challenge, the heart of FaithWriters.
How long have you been writing? For about 10 years–it was therapy in a hard time.
Been published? Nope. I’m a behind-the-scenes kind of gal. (Note: Many of Jan’s stories have been published in various FaithWriters anthologies)
Family facts: Married for 35 years to Ben. Two grown and married daughters, both teachers. One precious granddaughter and an ornery cat.
Biggest pet peeve: Writing–comma splices and use of the non-word “alot”. In life–noisy gum chewers.
What you do for fun: Read, play computer games, play with granddaughter Piper.
Where do you live? southwest Michigan
Book on your nightstand: Thin Blue Smoke, by Doug Worgul
A favorite Bible verse and why: Lamentations 3:22 “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.” When I was close to being consumed by grief, this verse sustained me.
Three goals for the future: travel to Australia, hold another grandbaby or two, lose *mumble mumble* pounds

And if you really want to get next to her heart, offer her Diet Coke and chocolate!
Love ya, Jan!
Jan’s comments on my challenge entries were a big encouragement to me. I love her “red pen”, for her critique is always done in love.
Yay! You’re famous now Aunt Jan! Here’s to a super-special writer with a heart of chocolate….well, I was going to say gold, that just sort of slipped in there. ^_^
Jan’s Red Pencil makes me feel like I’m back in the tenth grade with Mrs. Doran, my English teacher. *grin* I thing I was the only one in that class who loved her.
And for a behind the scenes gal, *ROFL* how many times have you been published? Maybe that’s the secret–don’t look for fame, it’ll find you.
Love you Jan. I’ll have that diet coke and chocolate waiting for you at the conference.
Jan’s comments, her heart and her wit were one of the first things that drew me into FW in a deeper way. I just knew she cared about the writing AND the writer… oh yeah, and she totally knows what she’s talking about.
BTW, what on earth is a comma splice anyhow??? I know I do ‘em, just don’t know how to stop
Jan rocks. Totally. Oh wait, that’s Jan rocks alot
