Journeying To The Double Portion Anointing
When we talk about the double portion, we are talking about the Anointing of the Holy Spirit. First I would like to say and to show you that every Christian is anointed. We are anointed not because of anything that we have done, but because of the Christ. The purpose of the anointing is to enable the Christians to follow as well as imitate the Christ. The bible tells us in Ephesians 5:1 “ Be you therefore imitators of God as dear children.{amp.} How in the world are we going to imitate God or Jesus the Christ? Through the anointing of the Holy Spirit. It is the presence of the Holy Spirit in and upon my life that enables me to imitate Jesus.
Let us go to the word of God and allow God to speak from His word. 2 Corinthians 1:21,22 “ Now He which established us with you {Corinthians} in Christ, and has anointed us { Paul and Timothy} is God. Who{God} has also sealed us{ Paul, Timothy, the Corinthians} and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. The letter is from Paul and Timothy, they are telling this Corinthian church that God has Established them, Anointed and sealed them. Everyone in the Church is established, everyone is anointed and everyone is sealed by the Holy Spirit.
Let us look at 1 John 2:26,27 “ But the anointing which you have received from Him {God} abides in you, and you, and you need not that any man teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you all things and is truth, and is no lie, and even as He has taught you, you shall abide in Him. And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. Here John tells all the children that the Anointing upon their lives will teach them all things{ lead them through life, enabling them to follow and imitate the Christ} so they will not be ashamed at the coming of the Lord. All of the children has this anointing. This Anointing is called our Base anointing, because it giving to everyone in the Body of Christ, enabling us to follow and imitate Him.
If you want the Double Portion Anointing you are going to have to take a Journey, the same journey that Elisha took. In 2 Kings 2:1-16 we find the journey that Elijah took Elisha on. The first thing we see here is that Elisha did not allow anything to hinder him from taking the journey, not even Elijah. You have to be sold out and want to take this journey. We all start out in Gilgal. This is the place of Salvation and Faith. It was at Gilgal that the Israelites after interring the promise land was Circumcised, they ate the Passover, and it was at this site that the manna ceased. Circumcision pits us in Covenant with God and the Passover covers us with blood of the Lamb of God. When the manna cease we then live by Faith.
Bethel. This is the place where we are tested and the place where we surrender to the call of God upon our lives{ every Christian is called to do something for God} It was at Bethel that Jacob had the dream of a ladder that reached to heaven and God spoke to him and promise to fulfill the promise that He made to Abraham. The test is will Jacob believe the word of God. This is also your first test, will believe the word of God. It was also at Bethel in Genesis 35 that God reaffirmed to Jacob that his name was Israel and Jacob surrender to this name. This is the first place in the bible that he is called Israel though he was first given this name in Genesis 32 where he wrestled with a man till the break of day.
Next Elijah takes Elisha to Jericho. This is the place of Warfare. It was at Jericho that the Israelites had their first taste of warfare. It was at Jericho that Joshua met the Captain of the Lord’s Host and received instruction on how to go about capturing the city. This is the time in our lives that we put on the whole amour of God according to Ephesians 6:11. Next Elisha takes Elisha to Jordan. This is the place of Vision. It was at the Jordan that John the Baptist Saw the vision of the Holy Spirit as a Dove appear on Jesus as he baptized Him. Without this vision he could not recognize the Messiah, the Christ.
Elijah tells Elisha that if you See me when I am taken away from you, then you will receive the Double Portion that you have asked for. But only if you have come to the place of Vision. When I get to the place of vision I have come to the place of Revelation, I have come the place where I can receive from God. I cannot give out until I have first received from God. At Gilgal I received my Based anointing, this anointing is for me, it is to lead me through life enabiling me to follow and imitate the Christ. But this double Portion Anointing that I revive when I come to the place of Vision, the place of Revelation, is for someone else. This anointing is upon my life for the purpose of healing the sick, casting out devils, this anointing is for humanity that God may get the glory. Have you come to the place of Vision? Do you have that Double Portion Anointing resting on your Live? Have you taken the journey? I pray that you have.
