Poetry
I cherish the reassuring presence of my six-petaled friend,
Star-like head on an impossibly thin stem
Your fluted trump turned towards the sun.
Paler than your more vibrant cousins
Against the darkness of your surroundings,
You have been a constant support
During a week of difficult days.
Despite your evident fragility,
Your searching after light
Inspires in me my own quest
For all that is true and beautiful.
Drawing deep from the water beneath you
You have summoned strength to stand
As a bright witness to your Creator.
Too soon your destined time will be o'er,
So I celebrate the short time in your company
Knowing that before long you will fade, wither
And die.
Returning to the ground which gave you life
To store the energy you will need
To burst into life
Again
Next Spring.

Thank you for your article on lillies.
Of course, if we wre to go back to the Northern Hemisphere at this time of the year, we would be welcoming in Spring.
However, as we chose to live in Australia, we are now in our Autumn. The house in which we have lived in for over 14 years, has an abundance of roses, both front and back. The front of the house has roses from the previous occupaants, which are absolutely beautiful@ Beside the roses, are bulbs of Easter lillies, which spring up every April! In past years, I have watched them bloom then die. This year, however, I thought I should cut them and bring them indoors, which I did
We celebrated Easter in March this year, 2008 so my question is this;
How did the Lillies know how to bloom a few weeks earlier?

A tiny contribution would be to suggest that the last line be spaced out ... to emphasise the ending. Finishing with the last couple of words "..... Spring" on a line alone. Maybe??? Just a thought.
It stands alone so well. Yet part of me wants MORE!!! Would there be another verse or two .... in time????????
I am appreciating your work in various genres of late, and, I think, really, I am hoping that there will be MORE in this genre.
Blessings on all your work!!!
