Gospel
Pray then like this:
Our Father Who art in Heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is
in Heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
[Matthew 6:9-13]

"Lord?"
"Yes, My precious?"
"I'm not sure about this
Prayer, Lord."
"Why, My child."
"I'm just uncomfortable
with It."
"Go on."
"First of all, I
thought this Part was
just for the Gentiles."
"I said It for you,
My beloved."
"Oy."
[NOD.]
"I really don't like
this part about the debts, Lord."
"I know."
"It's not, eh,
very human."
[SMILE.]
"Don't worry;
I'm not gonna'
start talking
about the Vulcans,
again, Lord."
[SOLEMN NOD.]
"But, this does make
me think of the
chair guy."
[PATIENT SILENCE.]
"I can't help it, Lord;
that $300 bucks kinda'
stuck in my gut, like too
much pizza on a Friday night."
"Was it worth it, child?"
"You mean the pizza?"
"No."
"I didn't think so, Lord.
Well.......aren't You, like,
gonna' toss that guy
in the pit, or somethin'?"
[SILENCE.]
"But, Lord!
He was just another sheister!"
"What sort of word is that, child."
"A GOOD one!
That's what!"
[OMINOUS SILENCE.]
"Well; he WAS!
Aw! Come on, Lord!
He took my chairs
to his shop, returned
them - and, two of 'em
fell apart a week later!"
[SILENCE.]
"And, the third one
I had to use my hot
glue sticks on."
[NOD.]
"I felt like a darn idiot."
"Perhaps."
"Well? Why should I
forgive HIM?
Forget about it!
Uh, uh!
No way!"
[SILENCE.]
"He even took 'em
back - and they
STILL fell apart!"
"I know."
"I can't BELIEVE......"
"Child, do you wish
to disobey Me?"
"Hey, I'd never
do THAT, Lord.
Maybe other people:
but, not ME."
"I see."
(silence.)
You want me to read
that part about the
seventy times seven,
don't You."
[NOD.]
(sigh)
"I thought so.
That's a toughie,
Lord. It really
makes me squirm."
[NOD.]
"Then, it's a good start."
********************************
Then Peter came up and
said to Him,
Lord, how often shall my
brother sin against me,
and I forgive him?
As many as seven times?
Jesus said to him,
I do not say to you seven times,
but seventy times seven.
[Matthew 18:21-22]
