It takes only a moment
to break a confidence
sever a vow
lose the innocence,
Only a moment for
what once was
to cease to exist.
The irreplaceable
gone in an instant
leaving only the frigid emptiness,
the echo of regret
and darkness
without and within
forever reminding
forever condemning
until…
another moment,
a glimmer of light
shines on the guilt-plagued brow
ever increasing
illuminating
the stale darkness,
lighting once again
eyes too heavy to hope,
restoring what was given away,
cleansing in a flood of forgiveness,
Perfect Love bringing new life.
Only a moment
and redemption has come.

I love the way this poem trickles out the terrors of guilt as sin is committed, and then leaves you breathlessly wondering in the great flood-tide of forgiveness and cleansing.
