The Word for Writers
It is sometimes hard to separate our writing from ourselves, but it is absolutely necessary that you learn to do so.
- quote taken from Faithwriters.com
Writing…it is almost like giving birth to a baby. Yeah, the baby that came into being when, for a moment in time, my soul was drawn so close to God that we were joined as one, for a split second. And out of that split second of my soul being joined to that of God, came forth life. Life I could not have brought forth on my own. Did the words come from my heart, or from the heart of God? Perhaps there were a bit of both. Like the groom and his bride joining as one flesh and becoming inseparable…so that moment of union with God rendered His heart and mine inseparable - where no clear line of distinction could be drawn – albeit just for a split second.
Then what are we supposed to do once we have given birth to a baby? We remember we are just stewards of His child. He is the Creator, the Wonderful Maker, the One who formed the babies in our wombs. He is the One who is sovereign over all of His creations, including the babies He has so graciously given us. Therefore, like any good parent, or steward of His child, we dedicate the baby to Him. We say to Him, “Thank You for this beautiful child who has brought joy to our hearts. We now give him back to You.” Just like Hannah and Samuel.
“Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they worshipped the Lord there.
(1Sam 1:28 NLT)
Dedicating the baby back to Him means we are acknowledging and trusting in His sovereignty. It is an act of worship to tell Him we trust Him. It means trusting Him to know what is best for both us and our baby. Trusting that He may choose to raise up the baby to be the next Roosevelt or Einstein, and to Him the glory shall belong; or He may choose to put the baby to death in his infancy, for good reasons beyond our human comprehension. More likely than not, He may choose to raise up the baby with our help. With His guidance and through much toil and sweat on our part, we will be given the privilege to feed, care for, encourage, and discipline our newborns; and to watch them grow into adulthood, taking on a life of their own and touching a corner of the world we never thought possible.
And this…is what I hope He will do for my baby, and the many more babies to come…

I think you have a very valid point here, Mei. It's a very hard thing to do to keep that ration at 50:50 as well. I keep doing re-writes on my stuff because in certain places, you can tell I was writing mostly from myself, and pushing God to the side for the sake of a rhyme He didn't intend. I think you did a good job keeping it balanced here, tough. Keep it up!
