Gospel
Exodus 3:8
“And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites”.
The land of freedom is one that is flowing with ‘milk and honey’. A place of liberty, independence and unrestricted life in Christ. The road to freedom commences with deliverance. The road runs through the highways of Egypt, into the Red Sea, out into the wilderness then through the Jordan River and into the Promised Land.
This means that before you get into the Promised Land – the place of freedom, there are phases that you must pass. Let us look at these phases on the road to freedom:
1. Highways of Egypt
Egypt represents bondage and oppression. It is a place associated with oppression, depression, affliction and possession.
Exodus 1:11
Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.
Egypt is the first phase on the journey to freedom. God is directly involved during this phase. Egypt is a place of intercession. It is a place where you cry the cry that moves the Lord to come down from Heaven. When the people of Israel started to cry unto God, He remembered His covenant with Abraham.
Exodus 2:23-25
23And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.
24And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
25And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.
God heard their cry, intervened and raised a deliverer. Moses was raised a deliverer but not to work in his natural wisdom. Many people who are still in Egypt on the way to freedom, try to obtain their deliverance in their own wisdom. This always fails! Moses, in His attempt to deliver his people using his own strategy, murdered an Egyptian and fled.
He took refuge in Midian. God, however, met him there, humbled him and released His deliverance power upon him. He was commissioned to be a vessel through which God will manifest his deliverance power in Egypt.
Egypt involves God’s miraculous intervention in the journey of freedom. When Moses raised his shepherd staff, God transformed it into a miraculous deliverance tool. Great plagues were released in Egypt in display of God’s deliverance power.
In the walk to freedom, some people are still at this phase. They are still experiencing various forms of bondage, oppression, suppression and harassment. They are still in Egypt. Friend! If you find yourself here, you need to cry unto the God of deliverance for He says in Psalms 50:5
“And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee,…”
Only God can deliver you at this phase. It is a miracle and God is the only one that does miracles.
On the road to freedom from Egypt, God leads you to the next phase.
2. The parting of the Red Sea
This is the second phase of the freedom journey. This phase is very significant as it also involves the manifestation of the miracle working power of God.
Exodus 14:21-22
21”…and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
22And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left”.
The parting of the Red Sea was the Lord’s doing. When you come out of Egypt, you experience God’s power manifesting in virtually every area of your life. Here God fights the battle and destroys the opposition.
In the story of the Israelites, the parting of the Red Sea brought them into the third phase of deliverance, which is the Wilderness phase.
3. The Wilderness Experience
The wilderness is a place of preparation for the responsibility of freedom in Canaan.
‘God qualifies you for the promise of freedom, but the wilderness qualifies you for Canaan.’
After parting the Red Sea and eliminating the stiff opposition, God leads you to the wilderness on your way to freedom. The first experience in wilderness is God’s miraculous provision of Bread.
Exodus 16:4
“Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day,…”
As you experience deliverance on the road to freedom, God miraculously provides and meets your needs in the wilderness.
During your early years of faith in the wilderness, you live on God’s miraculous manna. God does everything during this period without any contribution on your part
He provides water from the rock where water could not naturally be.
Exodus 17:6
”Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel”.
He provides clothing.
Deuteronomy 8:4
“Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years”.
In your journey to freedom, the wilderness is a place of grace, free provisions and miraculous happenings. During this phase in their lives, many Christians take God to be Santa Claus. As soon as you request anything, He provides immediately.
Despite any sinful tendencies that you brought in from Egypt, God still sponsors you in the wilderness, supplying all your needs without making you accountable.
• God will feed you in the wilderness even if you murmur.
• He will bless you despite your wilderness sins.
• Even if you curse Him, disobey and go contrary to His commands, He will still feed and take care of your needs.
Why?
God wants to keep His Word and integrity and to show his care and loving nature.
However, He gives you time to renew your mind and change your Egypt mentality
