Apologetics
Don't listen to the British Catholic bishops who are saying the Bible is not all true, especially Genesis and Revelation. It is completely true, historical and scientifically sound. Following, is how I interpret its truth chronologically, in line with science.
13.7 B and 4.5 B years ago "God created the heavens and the earth," respectively. Then beginning in 3970 BC (according to biblical chronology) there were 7 more "days" (figurative for years, as per the Book of Jubilees and other reasons) of creation, as God moved the earth from a more distant orbit from the sun into its present orbit in the first 4 years, explaining the ice ages and precluding evolution. In year one, this movement began to pull away the dense cloud and fog cover (Job 38.9) around the earth to make light and the day/night cycle visible on the earth. In year two, it further extended the atmosphere and in year three, it evaporated some of the oceans to make land visible. At that point, God created plant life. In year four, enough of the cloud and fog cover had been diffused to make the sun, moon and stars visible. In year five, God made air and water creatures and in year six, land creatures, including man.
Lending evidence to this timing are: the oldest village settlements found in the world, about 6000 years old, just west of Jerusalem, the site of Eden, I believe; the oldest city in the world, Jericho, just east of Jerusalem, from about the same time; and the ancient cities of Egypt and Mesopotamia, dating to about 3500 BC. (I also believe the Bible suggests the earth was intitially vertical on its axis, explaining tropical fossils in the arctic. Then God tilted the axis at the global Flood in about 2300 BC. Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations were wiped out at that date as archaeology confirms. The change in tilt probably also explains the longevities of the ancient peoples.)
Then amazingly, every 1000 years (another figurative meaning of the creation "week") there was a spiritual "sunrise." In 2970 BC, it was the father/son pair of Lamech and Noah. In 1970 BC, it was the pair, Terah and Abraham. In 970 BC, it was the pair, David and Solomon. Then "the sun of righteousness," Jesus Christ, rose from the dead at the end of the fourth millennium, in 30 AD, after dying for the sins of His people. And in 1030 AD, the Cluniac reform was at its height. So, the end of the sixth millennium will be in 2030/31 and be preceded by 7 years of judgment and destruction centred around Jerusalem, paralleling the 7 years of creation centred around the site of Jerusalem at the other end of the 6000 years. The Holocaust and the Jews' return to Palestine to form Israel are in the Bible. So the book of Revelation is true too, though much of its meaning is figurative. Sadly, I believe the next prophecies to be fulfilled are the expansion of Israel onto the East Bank and into Syria, past Damascus, and the deportation of the Palestinians to Jordan. Then the third Jewish temple will be completed about 2020.
