Worship
A New Heart
The services at Molly’s church had just begun and already she could feel the presence of the Lord. She had joined this church one year ago today, after moving here from the west She and her husband Jim had traveled doing construction work for many years before finally returning to South Carolina. They had bought their first home and, thank God, there wouldn’t be any more moving. The past year had gone by so fast and Molly had matured more on an every day basis in her relationship to Jesus than in all her previous years. Pastor Nelson and his wife were an answer to three long years of prayer for Molly. She and Jim knew after attending the first service that this was the place that God wanted them to be. They were both tired of traditional church services. They wanted to find a place where they could experience the presence of Christ and grow closer to Him.
On this particular Sunday morning, during worship to the Lord, she could feel a special drawing by the Holy Spirit as she joined into the worship service. With her arms raised in surrender and worship in her heart toward her Savior, she was deep in worship and drawn into His presence deeper then ever before. Suddenly she felt as if a bolt of lightening had hit her squarely in the chest and she found herself on the floor and in the most awesome presence of God that she had ever experienced.
Immediately she could hear the Holy Spirit speak these words to her: “Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon. Look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions' dens and from the mountains of the leopards.” (Song of Solomon 4:8)
She knew these words had come from the Song of Solomon, a book she had come to love and intensely study over the last year. As Molly lay surrounded by His glory and feeling so in love with Him, the Holy Spirit spoke to her in a way that she had never known before. The words seemed to have a creative ability, as if God was creating something new within her.
Molly heard the Holy Spirit say beautiful mountain and immediately there was a beautiful mountain right in front of her. She saw many people going up a path that led up to the top of the mountain and about halfway up there was a plateau. Everyone was stopping here. There was a table there set with an endless supply of food and an abundance of shiny, beautifully wrapped gifts. Molly, too, stopped to eat from the table and as she enjoyed the wonderful food she opened several of the gifts. All who were present were praising God and enjoying fellowship one with another.
As she tarried there, Molly could hear a faint voice from somewhere in the distance. The voice was not close enough to distinguish the words. She began to look for the person that was calling. In the distance she could see a hill that reminded her of a skull and it was somewhat plain. It lacked the beauty of the mountain where the festivities were taking place. The voice was getting louder and clearer now and Molly realized that it was the voice of Jesus calling her to come with Him. A few people heard His voice but they turned back to the excitement at the table and the food, gifts and singing. But at that moment none of that mattered to Molly. All she wanted was to reach the hill where Jesus stood calling out to her. Faster then the speed of light Molly now stood on a hill and was bowing down at the feet of Jesus and felt enveloped and covered in the glory of the one that she loved.
Her hearts desire was to stay in this place, in this posture and listening to His voice forever. All too soon, Molly found herself drawn back into the church service and someone was helping her to her feet. She had missed the entire service, but she had experienced a glorious time with Jesus.
After service Molly and Jim accompanied a few others in their group to a nearby coffee shop to enjoy a cup of coffee together. All the others were talking about the wonderful service they had just left but Molly was deep in thought. She was wondering what Jesus had just done in her life, knowing there was a difference and that He had changed something within her heart.
As she meditated on this reality, the Holy Spirit, once again, began to speak to her. “You have showered me with thanksgiving today for all I have done in your life. Today I have spoken a creative word into your being and have given you a new heart. Above all else your heart will long after only My presence. You will hunger for Me as the deer pants after the waters and you will receive more of Me.”
Molly decided, there in that little coffee shop, with tears streaming down her face to study “The Song of Solomon.” She would pay close attention to Chapter 4, verse 8 to discoverer exactly what the connection was to this creative miracle she had received.
