PROLOGUE
In times past, my writings did not contain an introduction. Sometimes a word of introduction is needed. Some inspiration material oftentimes needs a little shove into reality. Thus, what is referenced here I will echo in this explosive blog. It is important enough to be stated more than once: our problems versus solutions,
There is no place in God’s divine providential will for misunderstanding, only love, the love of a father towards His children.
We are charged in His inspired Word to oppose what is wrong but love what is right, and to have an understanding of the principles and leading of his Word. (Psalm 3:1-3)
Problems will come to us all, but so do His solutions. There is only one response and action - to love those, who may generate problems against us. We are called to pray for them and speak truth in love. (Psalm 12:6-8)
I pray above all that God will use this brief blog to accomplish His purposes; for empowering, encouragement, and restoration of the soul. Problem stumbling blocks will providentially be turned into stepping stones with His help and love.
So, what will we see? Let’s respectfully move on with the reading of this blog “Life’s Big Footstool.”
“One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard 'Power belongs to you, God, and with you, Lord, is unfailing love'; and, 'You reward everyone according to what they have done.'" (Psalm 62:11-12)
The bell rang out. Our dearly beloved Bible college is finally out for the summer. I’ll surely need the rest. The time away from school will be used to finish my dissertation. I not only need the promotion but the pay raise as well.
I’ll just sit here a spell and let the exiting traffic thin out. Besides, I can use the time to organize my laptop notes.
It must have happened then. I had a vision. Not a normal everyday vision, but a rather complex, complicated one of suffocating proportion. It was like none I have had before.
“Come right in and sit a spell,” echoed a deep voice within the darkness of the room. As if by divine action, the room suddenly lit up, allowing me to see the décor, but not the originating voice.
There were two identical lounge chairs, with corresponding footstools, in the middle of the room. What took my attention were the stools. Both stools had fancy gold-plated inscriptions. One asserted “Problems” the other “Solutions.”
The unknown voice spoke again. “Which chair and corresponding footstool do you choose to use, my good friend?”
Thinking rationally, I gave my response, “I’m not sure, kind Sir. I surely don’t want any more problems, either from without or within the essence of my life. You see, people and life’s situations can be cruel; I’d rather know I had the right solution.”
“If I prop my feet on the problem stool, will it reveal my problems?" I went on. "Will it show the people who have wrong me? If I do the same with the solution stool will my problems be solved? I wished all the time that this gentleman would show himself.
Much to my surprise, it happened. The room was flooded with light and I saw a character of renowned stature. He was dressed the part of an ancient Biblical character holding an ancient staff and an old First Century scroll in hand.
Then he spoke in an accented English discourse, “Relax," he said, "put your feet up. You see, my good friend, these stools have a celestially revealing effect, that dates way back to the Bible times, spoken of in God’s Word."
“What do you mean, kind Sir?" I questioned. “I feel I understand the action words of problem and solution: but what about this cosmic effect?”
Opening the scroll, he began to read. “It’s simple, my good friend. The Bible gives an exact interpretation. 'Heaven is my throne,’ He said, ‘and the earth is My footstool.'" (Isaiah 66:1)
“Oh, I see, heaven is God’s throne, or dwelling place and the earth is where He rests His feet," I responded excitedly.
“Yes, He rules from heaven, but He guides upon the earth. He recognizes our problems and offers the solutions," he continued. “God is over all things. He works all things, the good and the bad, for His will and all that wars against his will. (Ephesians 6:12) The holy and the profane are used together for His ultimate purpose.”
“He is activity and dynamically involved in the events of your world. His working not only takes place in the sacred realm but in the earthly realm as well. So, my good friend, where will you rest your feet?" he asked as he rolled up the scroll.
“But I have many so problems, and people for which I request solutions,” I responded earnestly..
Opening the scroll again, he continued, “You are so right, my good friend. You don’t put your weight on the footstool, you just rest your feet on it, on top of the problems, as well as the solutions.”
“So then, how may I match the problems with solutions?” I asked.
“Simply take them to the heavenlies, to your heavenly Father, to His throne of grace. God is slow to judge, yet he will ultimately bring all things under subjection to Himself. There’s no problem so great that He can’t solve, nor any sin He will not forgive. (I John 1:8-9) For now, just relax and rest on His footstool," he concluded.
Wow, I wish I had his scroll. It’s just what I need to complete my biblical study. Suddenly I felt as if a ton of bricks had been lifted from the depths of my soul by the Holy Spirit.
“Thank you, kind Sir, whoever you are,” I said.
Yet he was gone, disappearing just as he had arrived, in the blink of an eye. The vision ended and I suddenly found myself back behind my classroom desk.
I don’t mind saying so, I was uncomfortably humiliated and self-consciously embarrassed, I bowed my head in open responsive prayer, thanking God for the basic understanding of this revealing vision.
Now I will surely see my problems in a new light, that of the Gospel. Just let me grab my trusty laptop, I have a thesis composition to get to. Amen!
EPILOGUE
I trust you enjoyed this humbly-written presentation. Are you like me, often overcome with problems, with or without solutions, weighing heavy on your heart? Life is like that, I guess, especially from a human point of view.
Sometimes I rush into God’s throne room with a list a mile long. I know God’s Word encourages us to “come boldly into His presence.” (Hebrews 4:16) There are times when I wonder if I’m a little too bold. I can only imagine what my troubles may look like in Heaven.
“These last years have had a peace and fullness which there did not use to be. I do not think it is the quietness of advanced age… it is a deeper knowledge of the truer love of Christ…I cannot tell you how personal this grows to me. He is here. He knows me and I know Him. It is no figure of speech. It is the realest thing in the world, and every day makes it realer. And one wonders with delight what it will grow to as the years go by.”
(Phillips Brooks, author of the hymn “O Little Town of Bethlehem”)
When we seek our heavenly Father, we find He has a way of making our problems His solutions. So, love Him for what He is, our loving Father, and enjoy His blessings. (Psalm 4:6-8)
