They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means "the place of the skull"). Mark 15:22 NIV
Two suggestions for the title of “the place of the skull” are: 1) a place of execution with the suggestion of grimness, and 2) a small skull shaped hill outside of the north wall of Jerusalem at which executions by crucifixion were performed.
Within the skull is contained the brain. The human brain must undergo a death for its owner to follow in the footsteps of Christ. One must lose their life in order to find it. One must sacrifice of self in order to have the life-giving salvation offered by Jesus Christ. Selfishness holds no place in the kingdom of God. This is grim in that one must suffer in order to sacrifice for others. To be gained though is that which surpasses all which this world can offer. May your heart find “the place of the skull” that you find the everlasting love of Christ.
